The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Does not seem to be itchy. No break outs on the face. The highest concentration is where you would spray the heaviest, so that is what I think too. Darn sensitive horse..lol Some horses are more sensitive then others, and being as it was a change, I think so too.

EEEWWWWWWWW, that doesn't look good at all. I have no clue. I'd say bug bites, (have you had alot of flies etc.), but it sure is a coincedence about when it showed up. Is it a new fly spray?

I don't know. We might just have to give her a bath with beta dine. They were out in the rain yesterday, but this spray is suppose to be rain and sweat proof.

Ok, I see now it was new fly spray...

It just doesn't look like the kind of welts people get when they come in contact with something they are allergic too. I've never seen so many tiny bumps like that.

But now I think it probably was the spray.

What kind was it?

Yes, Dura-Max, I think it was called. Rain and sweat proof. I didn't have my reading glasses on when I went to the barn, so can't tell you what the ingredients are. I have to go get my plates for my trucks now. I will read it later and post the ingredients.

An oatmeal bath might help him feel better too. I think I saw some horse shampoo with some in.

I got the halter/bridle combo. I need to put some more holes in the straps that hold the bit, but I think it looks pretty good.

Did you dilute the spray with water? I had that happen to my
horses when I forgot to read the label 1 part spray to 4 parts water.

Some of that stuff is really concentrated.

BTW... you've got a good discussion going on there now and have made some great points... I'm busy this morning, but still trying to follow along :~D.

I'd say that it's a reaction to the fly spray. Is there any way that you can compare ingredients to a fly spray that you normally use, to see what she might have reacted to? Does it seem to be bothering her? I've never seen a horse break out like that.

Well, I just bowed out of this particular discussion. Obviously, I'm barking up the wrong tree. They've come up with to many justifications for what went on.

As I told them, it's NATRC's field of play, so I'll have to play by their rules rather I agree or not.

At this point I can't see pushing it anymore.

Understood, and I do think your points were valuable, and that they were heard. Your private messages told you you were not off-base, and you've raised awareness that there's some resentment when unruly or abusive behavior not only seems to be allowed, it places.

Can horses take benadryl?

Yeah, it's called Tri Hist Granules. It's not exactly benadryl, but it is an antihistamine.
