This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
If you aren't teasing me again, then forget that. I have no more horse money. The state is taking it all for fees and forms. Tomorrow, I may throw in the towel.
Well, in some ways there isn't a lot... Horses can can do find ways of snagging and cutting themselves tied to trailers too. But the ties on the trailer are made strong enough, unless the trailer is in disrepair, and the horse can't just pull them off. I have seen a horse pull the rear view mirror right off a truck, and it was clanging right along with him as he ran through the parking area at a ride.
I'm not teasing! Showing's expensive, and the least of it is the entry fees :~D You need the right halter, the right bridle, the right saddle, the right pad, the right chaps, the right boots, the right hat....
I put the pick there to point it out. I wish it was higher.
Well people can just come and enjoy him in the pasture. I'm serious. I can't afford ir right now.
Honestly, it looks like a wreck waiting to happen to tie to that. If she were to pull back, if it holds she'll end up going down under the rear end of that truck and every one of those corners will cut her.
I only mention it because I want to you be safe, I think tieing to the truck is unsafe. If I wanted to park her there I might loop it through there, but I wouldn't tie it. You can fool them into thinking they're tied when they aren't. I've done similar when tacking up out of the back of a truck. If you stay within arms reach, you can grab her if she starts to walk off, but she's not going to hurt herself that way.
Well, if you started in open shows, you can skip or get by with a little less, but it never stops :~D
Showing English can be a little cheaper, a bargain saddle doesn't look a lot different than an expensive one from a distance, and at least you don't have to cover everything with silver :~)
Well I hab the tail gate up. I was thinking about getting some rings on the outside put on, like a trailer. That would give some height.
I've said my piece...
And I listened:')
But.......I am not a baby! We gotta get some more inexperienced people here. I can't continue to carry this burden all by myself:')
Heh... All us opinionated wimmin scare off most of the new folk though... None of y'all like being told what to do :~D
We are just opinionators in the making:')
I don't mean to harp at you on a subject that's pretty much been covered, but I have to add, there must be a reason why trucks can't even be ordered with tie rings for horses. It's just not safe. That's my opinion, since we're voicing them:)
It was nice to see a picture of Okie:) I'll tell Celia I saw him, she asks sometimes.

I've been out mowing the pasture this afternoon...whew, it's hot. I can mow for about 10-15 minutes then have to come in to cool off. But I do see that I have little sprouts of bermuda here and there now, since I've been keeping it mowed. I'm really glad now I didn't sow any seed. It just wouldn't have been a good year to do it.
Becky
Our pasture is looking a lot better this year too, even without seeding. By mowing all the weeds and the grasses they don't eat the last couple of years, and letting the good stuff go to see this last month, it seems like we're slowly overtaking the undesirables.
Oh, don't show her that picture. He's all muddy.
I had an interesting situation this morning.
When Mack and I came home from breakfast this morning there were some cars parked and people walking along the road. It was obvious they were looking at the land across the road from our house. Being nosy:), like I am, I carried a bag of trash out to the can, and said hello. My motive was to see if 1) they were looking to buy and/or build. and 2) if they knew they could not get water.
Well turns out they were looking to buy, BUT, one of the people there was the realator...HHHHHMMMMMMMM...and it turned out she lives right up the road from me (shows how much I know about who my neighbors are:). I wasn't sure if she would appreciate my possibly ruining a sell, and since she WAS a neighbor, I just said good luck and walked away. I really feel bad for people that buy out here now. Realators are not required to tell there is no water hookups, (and to be honest they probably don't know, except she lives here so that is debatable on her), unless the buyer asks. But in this situation, I doubt anyone not familiar with living in the country would even think to ask. Obviously everyone around has water. I know back when we first bought I would not have thought to ask that.
Becky
I agree. It wasn't ideal. Obviously, I had some corncerns myself or I wouldn't have had my knife out, just in case. It's a mudfest out there right now.
LOL....we're pretty use to seeing horses muddy around here. It's not a crime or a sign of mistreatment:).
