This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I hope it stays dry today. Yesterday Okie came right to Eddie. Miss Sarah Lee didn't want to go thru the mud so I had to go get her. I held on to the gate and walked on the edge to get around the water. I came out the same way. I just held on to the rope and then made her walk out after I was out. She didn't like it. It was like "well you didn't go thru it" When I put her back I just opened the gate and shooed her in. She tried to do just what I had done. She walked beside the gate to the fence , tip toeing around all of it.
Good morning everyone!
Cute pics of you guys messing around with the horses :~D
Hey. We were working lol.
He has the advantage of being a rather intimidating presence, too, I imagine him being like my friend Bob, who would do the same thing. I wonder if it would have the same impact if I did it! :~\
Possible... We tried to figure out though, why, if she had been tacked up long enough to rub permanent scars, why she didn't appear to know anything. But on the abuse thing, I agree. She's never gotten in trouble for doing that, that's what she reverts to. I always walk out and pet her on the neck when she does that.
Is this because of the drought? How much do round bales usually cost? We can't use them here, they just rot. They rot on the inside when they bale them because they rarely cure properly, and they mold if you set them out to browse on.
We just bought hay that finally looks like first cutting from this year. Up till now, we'd still been feeding last year's stemmy third cutting, and the supply was getting a little sparse waiting for the new stuff to be ready.
She really is, it's funny, Bay thinks plastic is gonna kill him, and he won't touch it, but Cyn would play with it.
Those are two lovely foals you've got there, Farah's colt is just flashy as heck, beautifully marked, and the little chestnut with the big blaze looks gorgeous. I'd almost say there's an Arab face there.
and the 4H judging thing sounds like a worthy cause... would be interesting to know what they said about your horses!
And Sonny looks very good English, you know :~D
You might turn around one day and see that one of them as taken tooth to your truck :~\ Bay did, when we had the truck in the pasture working on fencing. I didn't notice till later.
I thought about her taking off with it but not chewing on it. It's my horse truck. I was tearing the mustang up out there. My husband gave it to me. I'm working on tieing her to it and mounting from the tail gate.
Mounting from the tailgate is good, I like doing that myself, but watch them catching the sharp corners on the gate. I wouldn't recommend tieing a horse to a truck... what are you fastening to?
Thanks.
How is retirement going?
Nope, niether you or I would be able to pull that off :)
Sonny seems to throw a touch of arab head ?? which is nice but odd. The only Arabian in his background is Shala Meesu sired by King Saad circa 1900. At endurance rides several people have asked if he's 1/2 Arab.

He must move a little fancy, and he's lighter built than the stock horse types like Farah, maybe. That sure is a cute little dished face and teacup muzzle on that baby. Sonny's a very good influence for the breed, I'd say.
We did breed him to a pretty large spectrum of mare confirmation type and color patterns, but we'll see what next year brings.
Unfortunately not - what you see is weeds. Horses won't touch it, goats don't even care for it much. About all it is is a fire hazard. It's our neighbor's and he and Bob are trying to figure out how to talk me into a bush hog so they can get rid of it :)
