The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I'm always up early. Don't use me as an example. :-p Night before last I woke up at 2 a.m. and I was up. There was no going back to sleep for me!

I've been watching tv, of course. The guy yesterday was lunging his horse, without a line, in the round pen. He was having the horse turn directiond with an inner circle. Cool, how he did this but reversing direction, and turning towards the rails got the horse in trouble. Mine turn towards the rail. I thought it was interesting but should I care? Does this way help them in other areas or is it just owner preference. I just get happy that they turn:')

I'm that way. My husband is like a light switch. He has actually feel asleep talking before. Me, the least little thing wakes me, and I can't go back to sleep, even if it's 3 in the morning.

Try landsend.com. They have very flattering suits for older ladies like us!

When the horse is in the ring under saddle, he's always supposed to turn inward.

So I trained my horse to turn inward when free longing, just to be consistent.

Those trainers definitely want the horse to turn to the inside, not towards the rail. It may be just for safety, the horse is never supposed to turn his butt towards you, otherwise, I'm not sure why it matters. I'm like you, I'm happy if they turn without giving me a hard time.

I just took a peek myself.

They have what they call "slenderizing" suits . . . spandex with a skirt over.

I'm afraid they would need industrial grade Kevlar to have any slenderizing effect . ..

But you can search by body shape, control level, etc.

THAT is a great site! I guess I thought Land's End was more of a kid store but they even have suits for mastectomy patients. I'm impressed. The prices are fair, as well.

The one above would look nice with my....long skinny legs:') I'm 5'2". Why can't they ever put overweight, short people in them to show what we would really look like? Maybe I just answered my own question.
