This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
:) Mine is similar, except it contains a space blanket, odds and ends I always need at horse shows or endurance rides, and you're much better armed than I am.
As a guess, I'll bet it was the wildlife and not the weather that was bothering them. Probably something passed that way that they didn't like the smell of. Such beautiful pictures :)
You ok?
They were just slooooow today, maybe they didn't sleep well, maybe they were just feeling like we were :~D and I think that's why Cyn was spooky... she wasn't looking around her till ~ack!~ oh - it's just a log...
:) I can relate to that. Maybe spring fever hits horses too.
I think so - and according to the GPS stats we actually made about the same moving time as we did last week, but there was no chomping at the bit to 'go' today, I was proddin' him on. I felt about the same way so... no worries.
My dressage show stuff stays in my truck. Goretex raingear (this is Michigan), boonie hat, wool watch cap, wool sox, camelback, FRS radios, etc. Some of it doubles as my winter survival gear (we have a lot of winter here, too).
When funds won't allow the hiring of a rent-a-cop to watch the stables at night, I throw in a .38 snubbie when I stay over in the camper.
I've got a cheap plastic poncho in the backpack (this is the desert so it doesn't rain much) and a full length down filled winter coat. That's because my biggest concern is having to survive our winter weather. I put it in a baggie after sucking all the air out of it bit by bit - it takes up a quarter of the bag though anyway.
Volcanos are rumbling again. If any impact at all here, maybe they can feel stuff. Just a though. Beautiful pictures.
Our volcano is rumbling? Haven't heard that.
We were just all feelin' lazy and none of us wanted to work very hard today, is what I think :~D
I have almost no pictures of the shows. I run the computer, take judges to and from the airport, and deal with dressage show moms. About the only time I see a ride is when I go out to a ring to pick up more completed tests, because there are always people out there clamoring to see their tests 10 seconds after that final salute. Sometimes I look up from the laptop, and see someone ride by, and I remind myself that other people are out there, riding horses.
One of my few fringe benefits is that I get a free lunch, and get to take judges up to the midway (this is the Ingham county fairground, and we set up inside their race track) where all the food concessions are. I even get to drive a golf cart. :)
I took one judge there for lunch, and we stopped inside the big arena, where a regional Arab show books the rest of the fairgrounds. The judge was "r"-rated, and spent all her time with warmbloods. So we watched a foal-in-hand Arab class.
She never paid attention to Arabs, and was amazed at how tiny and dainty the babies looked. She said they looked like fairy horses.
Lots of stories, few pictures. Like the long discussion I had with the TD over the fantasy uniform a Michigan State campus cop designed as a quasi-military uniform. It was all black, and basically cribbed from the nazi SS. I contended that yes, she was a sworn police officer, and police can ride in uniform. But since MSU did not have a mounted division, they did not have a mounted uniform. She let that one slide.
Another time, an airline pilot tried to ride in his pilot's uniform. The TD rightly pointed out that, despite his on-the-job title of "captain", he was neither a sworn police officer, nor did he hold a military commission. Therefore, his "work clothes" didn't qualify as a uniform any more than a Detroit Lions uniform would for dressage rules.
I'm alright, very soggy, and we've gotten about 9 inches of rain, with plenty more to come next week, and we've had some torrential downpours. Places like peabody, methuen and woburn are under some major feet of water. People being pulled out of their cars by fire trucks because water is almost up to their windows, and people are going around in boats.
I heard that. Be careful.
Indeed, be careful... gonna go catch up on the news and go to bed... unbelievable weather up there... hope there's an end to it... or maybe you might want to look into building an ark.
At the rate we're going, we just might have to. This may sound terribly selfish, but I'm graduating on Saturday, and I pray that it doesn't get rained out!
Huh. Do yall see a postI made this evening about Okie?
Hey , congratulations. You did it!!!!!!!!!!!!
