The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I know EXACTLY what you mean! Too curly to keep it short, not curly enough to keep it long. The length and weight of the hair pulls a lot of the curl out. When it is short it just goes every which way.

I am lazy and don't want to spend long on my hair. So, I usually just pull it back into a ponytail at my nape or put it up with a clip. Otherwise it bugs the hell outta me.

OMG .. I think I am in love with "Soul Man". IMHO, THAT is the perfect truck. Except for the color. Black is a big no no in Texas. It just gets too dang hot in the summer.

I'm not much into glamor. As you say, pulling it back in a pony tail easier. I would rather sleep an extra 30 minutes and slap on makeup after I get to work than fix my hair. Bad, huh?. Mine gets so long and it does what it wants. I have one side that I can curl under but the other takes a lot of work and just wants to be kinky.

That song was playing after I picked it up. Perfect name. Black is also very hard to keep clean. I will have to drive it to the steel mill for a couple weeks and it will be a real mess. There are so many really nice colors, but I really like black. Now, I have to get the bed liner in and my fifth wheel hitch. You ever see that commercial where the guy says he's in debt up to his eyeballs!..lol

My hair is pretty long, and I do the same thing as you, put in ponytail and put on a ball cap.

When I graduated from High Skroll, I went to beauty school. Worked in a shop for about a year. My hands couldn't take all the solutions and shampooing all the time. I used to smear on Vaseline and wear cotton gloves to bed. That and putting up with cranky women made me go back to college and take some secretarial classes. Now, I put up with cranky truck drivers!

Here's a gadget story with a dressage-show twist.

I was doing the computer work for the Bloomfield Open Hunt dressage show (once a major national event), and was picking up completed tests from one of the rings. Passing by some stables, I noticed what looked like a chip of red barn-wood in a dried-up tire rut. Except I got curious, because the barns there were all white, and not red.

I kicked at it, and it wasn't a chip of wood at all, but a really-trashed Swiss Army knife

It was as jammed up as if it had been filled with concrete. Mud had seeped in, an gotten hard as stone. After six months of soaking, blasting in an ultrasonic cleaner, more soaking, and digging with a dental pick, I got this

Everything works, even though it's a bit rough. The Wenger shield got popped off long ago as it sat in that muddy rut, being driven over by trucks and horse trailers. I have no idea how many hundreds or thousands of people passed by it, without thinking to take a closer look.

I doubt if had been in that rut for more than a couple of years. It looked like a faded piece of red barn-wood due to the thin coat of mud ground into the surface. But the color looked exactly like some chunk of wood off a barn that had been knocked around for ages.

sigh, very disappointing day. 2 hours into the ride, and we were doing great, Harley pulled a shoe:(. No one's fault. The trail was a lumpy trail, and muddy because of the rain, he stumbled and reached up with a back foot and caught the back of the front shoe. Pulled a big hunk of hoof wall off. I didn't notice right off, but as soon as we got on rocks I knew something was wrong. Went back and found the shoe.

We came back to the house I called Chris hoping he would say he would come and put it back but he couldn't. Not sure when he's going to make it. I tried going back out with one of my boots on, but that was awful. He was stumbling quit a bit, I'm sure because of the difference in the two front feet.

I'm sure Chris will come next week some time just not sure when right now. I had so wanted to get two good days in....

It was such a freak thing. His front shoes did not hang out at all in the back, I really don't know how he managed this. We were long trotting, tho, and he does have his big big stride back...

Well, I understand. He has other commitments. He was out building fence, which he does on the side. I just hope he can at least make it by Mon. At least I could then get two good days in next week.
