The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

LOL, I know it's not easy, but unless there is obvious signs of discomfort, don't worry. I catch my self starting to fret about something, and then just stop and think, he's not hurting, stop looking for something. I think we all tend to do that, but shouldn't.

There were some posts awhile back where I said my "back" pack weighed 17 lbs with all the stuff in it. I started pulling things out that I wouldn't need and got stuff down to a few pounds. I told Duchess I would not put any weight in my SB (saddle bag) that I had not lost. Ex: 2 pounds lost...2 lbs of supplies I could put in my saddle bag.
As for a saddle bag, I'm still looking. My backpack works though.

Oh, Ok. I missed that it was in a back pack. sorry:)

SB=saddle bag, well Duh;), I think all that riding has caught up with me, the brain is not functioning at full capacity. Better hit the hay:)

Oh, and in that case, no I don't have any suggestions about SB's:)

I don't use any. I've never seen/found any that don't do some flopping or sliding to one side.

Hey. My saddle bag now 1.6 lbs. heavier.

I don't have a bag yet

Cindy, I'm really confused:)

I was just talking about potential content weight. I meant I had lost 1.6 lbs and now could think about what I could put in a bag that weighed 1.6 lbs.

Yeah that's why I'm holding off. I don't want stuff in my "weigh" :')

That's really good, Hair. It's not good to weigh all the time anyway. I've noticed I hold or lose a little if I ride at least twice a week. I really don't do much so I don't know why. My jaw has been giving me a lot of problems lately and I haven't been eating much. The back teeth come out tomorrow though so ........:')

She's figuring how much her bag can weigh by how much weight she loses :)

Win some, you lose some :)

We've got nylon saddle bags, both the kind that tie in the back and the kind that fit over the horn. I'm pretty sure we got them through Country Supply. Bob and Tracey also have one they use on endurance that's more a roll behind the cantle than a bag - Bob still rides with his small bag over the horn too.

Well, I thought about just tying a Walmart bag to the horn but horses don't seem to like those things:') Seriously, I'll probably go nylon for now. After I have my husbands saddle then I may attach leather ones.

This club I went to last night doesn't have a problem with drinking but get upset when other clubs throw cans on the ground. They were talking about how they were picking them up and putting them in their saddle bags or a plastic bag. I was thinking, " yeah right. Like I'm gonna strap a bag of cans on Sarah Lee on my first trail ride". :')

I think I'd offer to pick them up if someone else would carry them :)

27 dollars for all 3? Shoot. That's not bad. I many order one. I just don't want stuff in my way. Sometimes I hold the back of the saddle and my arm stays by the horn.

You could get the set and then see which one worked best for you.
