The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I noticed him out there grazing earlier when it wasn't raining so hard. I think he got caught, and found the quickest shelter. Silly horse:). Funny thing, Harley who rarely stands in his stall is way back in his peeking out everytime I go out:)

Feed time is in 30 minutes, if it's still raining it will be interesting to see if he comes in to eat.

I got curious about what he would do and went ahead and feed. If I had been a betting person I would have lost. I was sure he would come a running when he heard the feed rattle, but he didn't. I rattled the feed he talked but wouldn't come out. I had to walk all the way out to him, once I was there he came out on his own. I had the camera ready to get a picture of him running for cover, but he just tiptoed along with his head down.

This is taken from his stall, you can see him there by the RV.

Going to the gate into his run, Grizzly is helping:)

Almost there:). You can see the run off behind the barn.

Everything looks greener already, huh!

In the top picture, is he still between them back there? That's a really funny place for a horse to want to go.

Yeah, he is standing between the RV and the boat. That's why I'm not real thrilled about having that stuff parked there, but we just don't have a choice. Only place we have that the little heathens running around here on 4 wheelers would have trouble getting to it.

Yes, it does look green, but unfortunately it's 99% weeds:(

Hey - green's green. It woulda been a good weekend to have put some seed down maybe, if it would stay cool awhile.

Yes it would have. While I was mowing tho, I saw lots of sprigs, so i think fertilizer will help spread what's out there. I still may pick up some seed. Better late then never. I'm just worried that it will grow, but not get a good enough root system before the fierce heat hits.

Pretty harsh to try to get new grass established if you can't water... Our pasture is the same way, even in rainy WA... since I can't run water out there, and it's so sandy it dries out if it ~doesn't~ rain every day...

That's what I'm thinking, and why I' d do better fertilizing what's already out there and established.

I know. I thought you said Harley didn't want to come out of his stall.

Oh Okay, I went back to see if the post you were responding to was the one I had said that, but it was the one Rocky was in.

Harley feels pretty safe around Rock when the hot wire is up and on. I've even seen him reach over and grab Rocky by the top of the neck and shake him around:) It's kind of funny.

We use to have another gelding that did that. This guy was huge. 16.1 1300 lbs. and he was running in the run next to Rocky with 2 other very big geldings. But one morning I got up and the hot wire of Rocky's pen was down, and the geldings were not in sight. Rocky was running up and down Belle's run all bowed up and studly acting:). I went out to see where the geldings were and found them way at the back all huddled in a corner. About that time Rocky came charging back there and they all got this wide eyed scared stare and scattered in all directions. He can be very intimidating when he's loose, but you put him in hot wire and he's a pussycat:)
