The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I'd even take it with the winds. We need it so bad. If we don't get some rain in the next week, the hay supply around here is just not going to be. The prices will just sky rocket on every kind of feed.

I heard a report the other day, since 2001 we are 32 inches behind on rain. We are further behind now then they were during the dust bowl. It's getting very serious here.

Oh my gawd....Mack just check to make sure the DVR was recording and the weather men are giving storm reports, on the storm THAT HAS ALREADY PASSED HERE. If we miss 24 for those stupid weathermen who never get anything right any way, the station is going to hear from me and it won't be pretty:)

I would like to have one of those combos too. Do you have a picture of the bag on the horse?

But they're going to be showing the whole thing, at least, instead of pre-empting it.

mil-spec fanny packs, ????????????????????

Here's one model from Maxpedtion, they make other sizes and styles. This one works over-the-shoulder, or as a fanny pack.

MOLLE is an acronym for a series of nylon strips sewn to gear, allowing other pouches, etc. to be threaded through them. You've probably seen it on GI body armor, where there are lots of these horizontal strips. The pack above has a few on the top, front, and back. You can literally stack these things to any depth you want.

I'm not sure which bag you are speaking of the one in the picture I wear around my waist. Here is a picture of the single water bottle bag I tie to my saddle. Hair, You might want to cover your eyes and not look at this thing. I was LOL just now out in the front yard carrying it to the house to take a picture of it. It's wore out, but it's not my fault. The dog got hold of it, but it still works sooooo why replace it:)

This ties real nice to the ring that is in the saddle that my back cinch hooks to, then the bottom of it can be tied securely to the back cinch and it doesn't bounce around. I tie everything on with shoe strings.

Thought I might as well include a pic of my new saddle bag from Christmas... It's not too big... ecurbhs are a lot bigger, mine's just good for the first aide kit, my water bottles, some TP and my snacks.

Since this picture was taken, I've gotten black buckle dog collars to tie it on tidy with, and ones that will attach it to my cinch also to cut down on flopping.

TP LOL....I don't know if I should come or not:). Your going to think I'm so crude. Please remember, none of the ladies I ride with carry TP. We just sort of drip dry:).

LOL...Oh my, you need to come here and tidy me up:)

Seriously tho. It's good to anchor saddle bags down as good as you can. Bouncing and scooching back and forth can really sore one up.

I have heard that a while back. The line of thought was that a soldier on horseback is less likely to get hurt from an exploding landmine. No one mentioned what would happen to the horse though..........

They used/are using horses on recon and patrols searching the hills in Afghanistan. They can go a lot of places vehicles can't go, faster than they can on foot.

That is/was true and there were several pictures made of soldiers on horseback. There was also a discussion I read somewhere about the landmine issue.
