This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I even have a toothpick or is that a needle? Amazing. I have only had this knife oh maybe 5 or so years:')
I think it's a toothpick. :~D
Well YEAH! That's a pretty darned important thing to forget, especially to the suture-ee! ;o)
They aren't great tweezers, but they'll work in a pinch :~D
Well, he was a cool guy and since we (nurses) always held the bottle up for him to draw it up , I could see how he might have forgotten that step:')
Oh sure. You don't need anything fancy:') I have added (for me) change, a whistle (I don't why but I have one) a lighter and........treats in a cheeto bottle.
The only other thing I hesitate on just for size but might be worth it's weight in the right circumstance is to carry one easyboot. Short of pulling a shoe, it would help keep a loose dangly shoe on so it doesn't tear out a chunk of hoof with it... and it might provide enough protection for a lost shoe, bruised sole or a puncture injury to allow them to walk out of the woods a lot easier.
Would it not be better to pull the shoe or would that cause too much soreness walking barefoot?
It depends... I don't carry anything that can cut the clinches off the nails... not sure ecurbh's leatherman could do it... and I'd rather not carry anything that heavy. If you don't cut the clinches off, it's not easy to get the shoe off.
As heavy as a farrier tool, I mean...
Yeah they are big (and heavy) We took one off Okie with a screw driver but it was almost off anyway.
The biggest problem is one easy boot doesn't fit all. I never thought of that though, because we always have easy boots or old macs in the trailer. Twice on rides out though, Tracey and Bob have had to call home to have someone bring the trailer out to pick them up due to a lame horse. And one time, one of them had to ride home to pick up the trailer while the other was walking a lame horse.
Those are good ideas too. Although don't treats take up a bit of space? But lighter, change and whistle are good.
I'm not sure where to put it yet. I tend to travel heavy, so I have to think about what is really necessary and what isn't. I am looking at saddle bags and I see 3 places they cah go and I found some really large nylon ones. I still haven't scratched off the back pack yet. I'm experimenting. I saw one saddle bag that becomes a backpack and the base stays on the horse.
flashlight
Maybe that's where duct tape would come in handy.
One of those mini mag lights... hmmm!
the aa or aaa. They are tiny.
Yes!
All I really need is a way to secure my back pack (I can't wear it) because I tote must os this stuff around with me anyway.
