This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
No - that's what's so odd. In 59yrs, I've been allergic to poison oak/ivy (which I recognize easily) and the allergy has lessened over the years. I've been allergic to bee stings but not seriously so. Nothing else has ever bothered me. I've used all sorts of chemicals painting, stripping furniture, etc. without any problem. I guess something has tripped the reactions.
Have you just been sensitive to this one thing this one time? Or other things too, lately?
I already stopped eating anything new at all and am checking labels to see what's in things. Last week was not fun, I'd just as soon not do that again :)
Well, allergies are developed over time, usually... most people who become allergic to things like bees, did so because they were stung many times and got progressively worse.
Not sure how to explain things like allergies to peanuts in young children though.
A few years ago I soaked some whites and forgot about them. I finally rewashed everything. My husband started putting his saocks on and his feet went right thru. Then his briefs.... We had the biggest laugh as we peeled them off of him:')
I think I read somewhere that peanut allergies are developed in-utero or through mother's milk. I don't know why either, but I've heard that pregnant or nursing moms shouldn't eat them. Allergies like that are just so bizarre and scary. Penicillin allergies are especially scary because they can crop up at any time. Any penicillin should could be your last.
That's funny about the socks and underwear! The bleach must've just eaten them up.
He pulled up the band to his drawers and only elastic came up:')
Until this past week, I hadn't noticed being sensative to anything - last Thursday was the first time I've ever broke out in a rash like that. I'll have to use a little more care and pay attention for awhile to see if I can find a common thread to this.
Well thanks Frog. Let's see. It's been longer than 15 minutes so I guess I'm ok this time:')
Yes, that is frightening - not knowing what might set off a serious reaction. I've always been so thankful that I didn't have allergies to medications or peanuts and similar things, sometimes no amount of care is good enough. And penicillen used to be the first thing doctors gave you.
What's different from 20-30 years ago?
Why are we suddenly becoming so sensitive to things do you think?
Wish I knew. Age?
I really don't think so. I don't recall seeing this happen to parents and that generation earlier. Perhaps it's the tremendous amount of chemicals/preservatives/plastics in everything now days.
Maybe. That's kind of what I meant with age. Continous exposure over time. It might not even be a chemical but a container interaction. Either we just didn't hear about it or it's more frequent today though.
There were people breaking out in rashes awhile back that were allergic to penicillin but hadn't had any. They got it from milk. Look at all the stuff on our food. I once asked a grocery why the apples were so red and shiny. He said they washed them with a wax. No tell what you can get from a can good if you don't wash the top first.
Yes, I think you are right about that. Chemicals and anti biotics in everything we buy to eat. And pesticides sprayed on everything to boot.
