This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Interesting scenero though huh? Your horse sees a mountain lion and dumps you. The mountain lion decideds to check you out. You can't run but can only try to make yourself look big and bad. What are you going to do?
LOL, i wouldn't be offering it an apple bar:) For more reasons then 1 too. Not only do I not think an apple bar wouldn't satisfy him, I wouldn't have them with me because I don't give treats:)

It was a joke. I wouldn't either unless I was using them as rocks. Your treat container might have to be your weapon though:')
Oh, I know, I was just teasing.

Another picture perfect day, weather wise here. Sunny and close to 80. I took a walk in the woods last night with the dogs. The two barn kitties had to come along too. It was quite an adventure for them, and of course they passed out when they got back home.
ERCOT unable to meet current demand for power
05:02 PM CDT on Monday, April 17, 2006
From 11 News Staff Reports
The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), the corporation that administers a portion of Texas' power grid serving approximately 85 percent of the state's electric load, states there is not sufficient generating capacity in the region to reliably serve the public's electricity demand and that ERCOT is in an emergency situation.
ERCOT states that it is extremely urgent that all electricity customers in the region reduce their use of electricity to the lowest level possible. This includes:
Making sure your thermostat is set at 78 degrees or higher in the summer.
Don't use any electric lighting, appliances or equipment unless absolutely necessary for health or safety
Don't open refrigerators and freezers more than necessary
ERCOT is doing everything possible to return to normal operations. However, if conditions do not improve ERCOT will be required to direct the interruption of electric service to portions of the region.
11 News has learned that Austin Energy confirms rolling blackouts throughout the city of Austin.
None that I know of, other than it may be kinda hot. You're talking about the kind with shoulder straps right? Some endurance riders and mountain bikers will use something similar except it's a thin backpack full of water with a small tube that comes up over your shoulder and is held there by velcro so you can get a sip of water any time you need one. But I always wondered if the water wouldn't get kinda hot, or at least body temperature, by the end of the day. (I hate drinking warm water.) So I'd think if they could stand wearing one of those all day, that a light backpack would be fine too.
Poor girl! Sounds like she got the wind knocked out of her. She sounds like a real sweetheart.
Alriiiiight! I'll bet you were grinning from ear to ear! I'm looking forward to the pics.
Rode her Tues night, going to ride her again tonight. She hadn't been ridden since the weekend, the weather turned a little chilly, and she was downright fractious! Had to half-halt her before every fence, and she was giving them LOTS of air (we were riding with the crazy teenage girls, and my trainer kept putting the fences up, and the mare got a little nutzo . . . )
The only problem I can see with riding in a backpack is that it would bounce funny when you trot... and would be harder on your back and hotter than putting the stuff in a saddle bag.
Wow! I heard about those possible power shortages the other day. That'd be awful with all the heat y'all have been having. It's stuff like this that makes nuclear power generation seem awfully appealing. It's enough to make you consider putting solar cells on your roof. If things get bad enough, it might even be economically justifiable too.
I don't have to worry about that! ;o)
That's right, you can just sit and sip your champaign while we work this out ;~D
LOL! Now that's a nice visual! ;o)
I remember it from a Walking Horse demonstration once, the guy went around at full clip while sipping champagne out of a big wide champagne glass.... didn't spill a drop :~D
Heh, I didn't notice either. Details, details...
Yeah, they still have that class at all the shows. They call it "Water Glass" though. I guess they're afraid they'll misspell champagne. ;o)
Well, it's likely a lower-brow crowd these days...
