The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

It's always amazed me that just out in the middle of now where you come across that stuff. I know there use to be homestead sites all over out in there, but it still seems strange when you come across fence line in the middle of the woods.

I'm having some coffee, so I'll be coherent tonight for this seminar. I got Macks Vet out and rinsed it off. If I'm going to have a girls night out I'm going to do it right:)

p.s. Dam, just pulled tick #1 off me. At least he wasn't stuck but he was biting.

I can't hardly go out on a ride, and not think about how lucky we were that we moved here. Especially now, after not being able to ride for so long, I'm really appreciating it. I think I was taking my horses and the area I live in for granted, and getting a bit blase about it.

...Heh... I did come across some of the 'campers' up there, squatters and homeless survivalist types that live up there, when a friend and I were driving around a couple years back...

I guess there's always people like that around. I just flipped over to the Law Enforcement page of the Forest Service site for our local forest, looking for the hand gun rule, and while I was there I saw that they had a rule that stated that camping over 21 consecutive days was prohibited. So I guess that was intended for those type of people. I didn't find anything about hand guns being prohibited, but I'm almost sure that I've seen signs posted. I don't think I would have imagined it, but maybe somebody just told me that and it really wasn't true. I'll have to look more closely at the bulletin boards at the trailheads the next time and see if I see anything about it.

Hey, Frog, Harley seemed to be moving better today then yesterday. He had moments at the trot where he was really moving, but it was as soft as could be, now of course it was only for moments:), but I think he'll get better every time.

It's like they've got to find their "groove" again. They don't have to move like they did before to get over that long toe and I guess it takes a while for the muscle memory to go away.

Yeah, yesterday it was like he didn't know how to walk. I am soooooo glad you warned me about that. Dumb me would never have thought about giving them an adjustment time. I'd immediatly have went bonkers, and started worrying:)

Oh my gosh, that is exactly what Mack says to me. How funny.

Hey, I'll have some good pictures tomorrow. Jenny got her release from her doctor Mon. and she's going to start working with her horse tomorrow. It's been a year since the horse has been messed with. So I think someone should be there. If the horse seems to be OK, she'll ride her. But hopefully we can at least get her saddled and let her stand and maybe lunge some. (to tell the truth, I'm not expecting her to do anything, she never has, why would she now,), but better to be safe then sorry.

rule that stated that camping over 21 consecutive days was prohibited.

Here, it's a limit on consecutive days in any one place, so there are a few who just pack up and move to a new location.

I'm glad I told you about it too coz you'd've been blaming me for causing you to spend all this money. ;o)

I didn't have anybody to tell me, I just had to take the chance and live with the possible consequences. Shortening the toe of a gaited horse flies in the face of all conventional shoeing "wisdom". Most gaited horses I ride with have these godawful long feet to keep them from pacing and I just feel so sorry for them because I know what their lives will be like when they get older and the consequences of all that bad mechanics starts to set in. I guess I'm lucky in the fact that Bob's got a good natural gait that doesn't require all that toe to keep it smooth.

This is Dot, right?

I'll look forward to the pics... hope she does OK :~D

Cyn came back great after the winter off last year, but I still want to lunge her a few times to be sure.

I'm going over to mow... see you all later.

I'm glad Jenny's getting to ride again. I'm sure she's been missing it. Hopefully Dot will do fine. You may want to ride her first, just until you're sure. But like you say, she probably won't do anything if she never has.

Well thank you very much for that vote of confidence, but Jenny's always been a much better rider then me.

But if it does look like she's going to be a pill, we'll get Charlie to get on her:)

Aren't I a great mother:)

Oh, yeah, it's Dot.

Hey, I lunged Harley for a week after he had been off for 5 weeks:). Nothing wrong with caution:)
