This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
More good news, from my perspective anyway.
Vet just called and his surgery tomorrow is cancelled, so he's wide open and can come at 9.
The surgery was to repair the broken leg from today, so I'm guessing it means they talked it over a bit and decided to put the horse in question down. Sad for them.
Well, I would just follow what the vet told you to do, but keep track of the heat in his feet. If it gets worse let him know.
We're all just guessing here:)

I'll get one when she's more presentable . She needs groceries right now.
Oh - so he's a stud, and you know he's not actually Rusty... I wondered if you thought it actually ~is~ him. Huh - he does look very alike from my perspective!
That's good for you. Too bad about the other horse though.
Well, founder is an inflammation that is *theorized to severely restrict the blood supply* to the laminar structures. Cold water reduces the inflammation, therefore limiting the restriction. Perhaps something that increases circulation would also help. Maybe they are compatible.
Whoo Hoo....that's great, except for the broken leg horse of course, but I'm glad he's coming.
Let's see that will make it 11:00 here, and I'll be gone,,,shoot, I'll have to wonder till afternoon:)
It's all going to be OK:)

Now that's excellent news for Bay. An expert on the spot is what he needs :)
The more I looked at the picture the more I wondered, mainly because of the way the mane was hanging. Rusty's did exactly that. I called Kristy, I knew she'd know something about him. I never even looked close enough to notice he was a stud. I walked over snapped the picture and left.

I'll ask the vet tomorrow ;~D
Paintalossa huh? lol
HuH:') Well, Sarah Lee was turned down by the owner of the paint. I was looking into AI but that is complicated. I commented that I ought to just breed her to the old Appy stud but was told that you don't breed the two. Anyway, I talked it over with my trainer and it's getting late and we are going to go "shopping" for next year. I'm really kind of disappointed and down about it but she says she really likes how Sarah Lee and I are riding and wants me to concentrate on some other stuff with her this year.
3332 was for you too. I've decided so I don't mind talking about it now.
What was the reasoning on the part of the paint stud owner if you don't mind saying? The fact that she's not registered?
Another year of riding won't hurt either of you, but it's not too late to breed if that's what you really want to do.
He said too many diseases esp strangles going around . He has pulled his studs completely off the market this year. Can't say I blame him. I wasn't serious. This ole Appy guy acts crazy. I don't want a crazy foal:') It was like , well at least somebody wants her though:') I looked at the AI but it's a narrow window and expensive and the sellers want uterine cultures and vet clearances and all kinds of stuff. I don't see why it would matter to them unless someone might want their money back if not all went well but anyway I'm going to wait until Feb. My trainer says Sarah Lee is turning into a good ridung horse for me and another year would be good for both of us. Now, if I could figure out how to feed one more mouth and buy another mare though ....lol
AI is a pain for stud owners too, and they don't want to have to keep collecting and shipping to a mare that might have an infection or cysts or something and not concieve.
You can't go wrong by just waiting a year and riding instead. If she were pregnant you would end up having to limit your riding.
Yeah... I know.
Yes, a good bit of our lunging is free lunging - doesn't keep them is as tight a circle. What's the puzzle?
