Fascinating bit of historical more-than-trivia...

Reminds me of another never-knew before but significant historical narrative: the thousands of x-ray machines in shoe stores all over America that disappeared almost overnight in the 50s.

Ironically, nuclear weapon research identified the damage done by radiation of various kinds...

I remember the x-ray shoe sizer at a Sears. It was touted as the most accurate way to buy shoes. Used it many a time.
