In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
repugn \rih-PYOON\ verb
: to contend against : oppose
Example sentence:
"First and chief. . . . let the others repugn as they will: all Titles of Nobility, from Duke to Esquire, or lower, are henceforth abolished." (Thomas Carlyle, The French Revolution: A History)
Etymology: "Repugn" is a word that was relatively common in English in the 16th and 17th centuries. These days, however, English speakers are more likely to be familiar with one of its close relatives, namely, the adjective "repugnant," which formerly meant "hostile" but today most commonly means "exciting distaste or aversion." The Latin root for both of these words is "pugnare," meaning "to fight." Other English derivatives from this root are "pugnacious," meaning "belligerent," and "impugn," meaning "to assail with words or arguments." Even "pungent" is a relative of "pugnare." Therefore, don't try to repugn, or impugn for that matter, the influence of "pugnare" on our languagelest you appear pugnacious!
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

All words are free game in my brain...all I could think of was reporters whining about Cheney...
Dis is also the greek name of one of the gods of the Underworld.
Disagreeable to disrespect to disrupt to disreputable to the underworld, all in one slangy term.
My mind is perverse.

It's all I can do to post a thread and do links, images, italics, small and bold. I did not go to the HTML seminar class. :-(
Show-off.
i am going to beg marteen to help us with this, bc i am too tired to walk down the hall to the HTML class to look it up!

Morning!
Queen Hillary and the other 'rats
Repugn school vouchers as a bad thing
That schools of the white supremist
And jihad is what they will bring
Never mind that her precious daughter
Went to high dollar private schools-
They want you to do as they say
While they follow different rules
I think we can guess the reason
For their hawking public education-
If their voters have quality learning
They'll pack up and leave the plantation
I'm taking my car to have the gearshift gremlin identified and hopefully banished, then I'm off to a customer's house-back later...
If you want to be included on WFTD sign up on the thread!
(THIS thread, I assume)
thank you grimmy, you get a kiss for being a good boy!
