While away from football in 2004, the All-Pro running back spent some of his time in Northern California studying yoga and holistic medicine.

...between bong hits with whoever he was hanging out with. You can send a dopehead to Mars and he'll find somebody to hook him up with the goods.

What's that smell, Ricky? That's your whole life going up in smoke. You'll probably regret this in 10 years when you're living on the street and the local high school newspaper won't cover your latest run-in with the law.

When Williams was at UT, it was obvious that he had problems, but that the team took care of him. I don't mean covered for him, I mean took care of him. About four guys would escort him to the sidelines after a long TD run. He was never alone on the field. When he did interviews, he had this monster body and a Michael Jackson voice. I've never heard him say anything bad about anyone, and I've never heard of him being violent to anyone that wasn't trying to tackle him on a football field.

I've read that he's been clinically diagnosed with "extreme shyness" (God as my witness, I'm not making that up), which sounds like a load to me, but it is obvious that there are a few loose connections on the circuit board.

I feel sorry for the guy. Somebody put him up to that wedding dress photo, as Ditka showed up as the groom. That shows how malleable he is, and how unprepared he is to deal with the con-artists and sharks that circle the NFL. Ditka would pose for the photo, but think he would show up as the bride? No way. Ditka also put an unbelievable amount of pressure on Williams by trading the entire draft for him. Most people agree he got royally screwed in his initial contract with the Saints. If Ditka had looked after Williams, he might have been a top performer. I've never thought Ditka was that good a coach. He had Buddy Ryan build a world-class defense, one of the greatest running backs in NFL history, and a good QB in McMahon, with some good receivers. Ryan took that team to the championship, though, not Ditka. Ditka also managed to fubar a team that should have been able to win for several more years. He mishandled Williams, just like he mishandled McMahon.

I've never, in my entire life, had the talent to do anything that would get me on a national magazine cover, or the type of money that Williams can make, but I can tell you that if I had gotten the attention Williams did when he was 19-22, I would have been the biggest jerk in the world, and probably screwed it up.
