Of course, you can feel the need to be intimate with someone, we all feel that way.

I guess while I may feel the need for human physical intimacy, I want mental and emotional more.

And that is waaayyyyy harder to come by.

He just sounds like so many men (around here) who marry women they have nothing in common with and often don't even like that much, 'just to have someone in the house'...to quote one geezer.
