when his error was ponted out to GEN Wheeler, he said, "UH, i meant SPANIELS!" (during the SA war, the Spanish regulars were called "spaniels".)

I suspect N.B. Forrest's Civil War statement will get as much attention as the Cornerstone speech by our sons of Dixie's fight.
"That we are beaten is a self-evident fact, and any further resistance on our part would be justly regarded as the very height of folly and rashness."
The general told it like it was. It's done and has been done for 140 years. The CSA isn't rising again.
To: stand watie
it cannot be verified because it did NOT happen.it's just another LIE, propounded by the LEFT & south-HATERS.
All I did was relate what the author wrote in 1866. Any objection should be directed to the author of the book, J.S. Hurlburt, or to Emily Grisson, Matilda McUen and Mary McUen, the ladies who made the deposition in 1864.
To: Colonel Kangaroo
That's Emily GRISSOM. Don't want to let a misspelling mar Emily's moment of FR notoriety.
To: Colonel Kangaroo
"The CSA isn't rising again." The defeated CSA is only rising in the twisted mindsets of those longing to revive the entire era of the lost cause, from slavery to segregation. Today's lost causers exist in their own little demented fantasy world.

"Civil war, such as you have just passed through, naturally engenders feelings of animosity, hatred, and revenge.""Animosity, hatred, and revenge" fits you like a tight glove.
Only a total loser would still be fighting for the 'lost cause' in 2006.

I took a trip Ft. Pillow, because I specifically wanted to know what transpired. The fort is very small, maybe 100 yards in length and width, and constructed with an earthenworks wall. At the rear is a very steep dropoff to what was the Mississippi River, but it has since changed course. Concur. When I first saw the site around 1997, I immediately thought how a squad or two could have neatly taken the garrison by turning their avenues of retreat into killsacks with a handfull of claymores and a couple of light machineguns. That equipment was not available to Forrest, of course, but his troopers were known to be fond of shotguns, both double-barrelled and field expedient versions made from converted obsolete 69-caliber muskets cut down and converted to percussion cap ignition. And of course, revolvers were much more common among Forrest's commnand than usual, it being a bit difficult to reload while full-tilt on horseback.

I have read 9 Forrest biographies, and will comment on them tomorrow when I have time. Should I manage to finish the final adjustments on my Wayback machine, and could manage to send you back to that time, would you care to soldier for the man?

When I was at Ft. Pillow, I stood in amazement at how Forrest figured out to assualt the fort. He simply kept the Yanks heads down with snipers, and then had his men charge over the earthenworks. Heck, the Yanks didn't stand a chance, and then to get caught in the ambush at the bottom was of course a nightmare.

Good afternoon Mr. Lost Cause.
Laugh at? I not the one still fighting for the Lost Cause some 150 years after the defeat. The home is looking for you - again.

Your knack for backing losers is incredible but understandable. Why don't you inform everyone how 'Putin is real America's true ally'.

He was truly a hardened sneakypete, and I would love to have fought for him. One thing, you would want to show 100%loyalty to him all the time, because when there was a problem he could be a nightmare.

But to this day there is debate over whether Forrest ordered the massacre, allowed it to happen, ordered a halt to the killing or didn't know about it at all until later. Where was the outrage when Sherman tore through Atlanta?
War is war and what happened in the past, happened. This is just more PC history revisionist crap.
