Good grief....do you even know what a pit bull is? It's a moniker for a class of dogs, sometimes also referred to as bullie breeds, they share very similar foundations. There is NO specific dog that is a pit bull, everything from a staffordshire to the American bull terrier are labeled pit bulls...at least in the police reports.
This harkins back to the days when they were referred to "bull and terrier" fighters...dogs pitted against bulls and other dogs. That's one of the problems with their common designation, when you hear a story about a "pitbull attack" they never mention "which" breed was responsible. I understand that the AKC groups them as terriers, and does not refer to any dog as a pit.

good grief ... I know all about "bully breeds", and more than enough to know that bully does not equal pit bull. Saying all bully breeds are pit bulls is very, very ill-informed. The common origin - the old sport of bull-baiting- doesn't mean squat here ... it's where the breed is now. Bull terriers do not have the extensive history of dogfighting that the common pit bull does and therefore do not have the aggressive traits of pits. Do you classify English bulldogs as pits too? Because they are a bully breed. Again, the Am Staff terrier is the AKC dog closest to the modern dogfighters that cause so much trouble.
