Agreed. I always hated that song. I couldn't stand him or Yucko, either.

That picture should be shown to every middle schooler with the admonition "this is what happens when you use drugs." Probably would scare alot of kids straight!

"...they value peace more than they value freedom."

No, they simply have no idea of what "peace" means.

It is not merely the absence of warfare.

I have no doubt the Muzzle-ems will soon achieve "peace" in Europe, as Yucko Oh NO defines it, but would she want to live there?

The show made the point, correctly, I think, that the song is just asking people to think, to imagine and that is not a bad thing.

Because it's nonsense that wasn't even followed by either John or Yoko. (Imagine no possessions? While living in the Dakota? Now that's rich!)

Besides, why doesn't Yoko practice what she preaches, and extend the olive branch of peace to her stepson Julian, and to Paul McCartney?

I guess someone had to state the obvious.

So if I understand you correctly you are saying it is bad to even imagine non-conservative things and that art is invalidated if the artist has serious failings in their life. If that is what you are saying then I disagree on both points.

Please don't put words in my mouth. My point is that if somebody is going to lecture the rest of us how we should all "imagine" peace, perhaps that person should actually try to make peace with the people around them, and not merely believe in peace as an abstract concept. It's easy to pontificate about peace; why not actually put it into practice? And Yoko Ono has not achieved anything resembling peace with either Julian Lennon or Paul McCartney. And by all accounts, that is her choice, not theirs.

As for whether art is "invalidated if the artist has serious failings in their life," yes, I think it's hypocritical for an artist to write about imagining no posssessions when he's living in one of the most exclusive places in the world. That doesn't mean John Lennon was a bad singer; just that he wrote a very annoying song, one that he didn't exactly put into practice, either. Just being "idealistic" isn't enough.

My take on it is "imagine how peaceful the world would be if people didn't have gods to fight over".

Get rid of all gods (NO GOD) and problem solved. But it wouldn't solve things.
