Trojan found upon running anti spyware
self

Posted on 02/10/2006 5:17:12 PM PST by hsmomx3

I just ran the Yahoo Anti-Spyware program and an item titled, XCP.Sony.Root Kit" came up as a trojan with 53 items.

When I hit the delete button, a pop-up appears and says "one item cannot be restored when removed."

Should I be concerned with this?

AdaWare and my AVG AV programs have not detected this.

Running Win XP Home Edition

These guys work wonders. It is a free registration and they walked me out of a big spyware problem.

Attention: In order to install Anti-Virus from SBC Yahoo!, you must remove any existing anti-virus software on your computer.

Does it have a way to loate & remove it or is this a manual process?

Windows Update's Malicious Software Removal Tool can remove the infamous Sony DRM rootkit, which is what this appears to be.

Why wouldn't you want to delete one of these 53 items?
If they are infected, what good are they? Get rid of all of them. Anything that is essential but missing after the fact can probably be restored by a quick Windows refresh from your WinXP CD.

You have me mixed up with someone else. I went to the SBC Yahoo site to try their anti virus and It stated I had to remove all of my anti virus programs that I use to protect my computer before I could download their program.
