Dear Mr. Tagliabue,
Id like to take this opportunity to apologize to you and the league for my intemperate remarks at our ceremony at Qwest Field concerning the officiating during the Superbowl.
On Monday, just one short day after losing (oops) the game, I was still burned about the outcome, and I had consumed about a pound of bad jumbo shrimp for lunch, my stomach was churning, and it was just a bad day all around. I came home from Detroit, our cat was missing from the house, the Governors dog was hit by a car, and she was blaming me for that. Just real bad all around, Paul.
Paul, I was still stinging from calls that went against our team. It seemed like the bad calls were stacking up as high as the Space Needle.
Ive always been known as a good and decent man in the community. Well, perhaps except for the time I borrowed my neighbors Rototiller to do that work on the Church rose garden .................. heck I didnt see that rock ............. like I didnt see that sneaky Steeler trick play coming. My neighbor told me he wouldnt be using that Rototiller for a good long time, I thought hed never noticed it was broken. Wosrt thing I ever did, Paul......... until now.
I feel as badly about my comment to the fans, "I didn't know we were going to have to play the guys in the striped shirts as well, as I did about giving my neighbor back his mangled Rototiller. Come to think about it, that Rototiller was as busted as our defense on that Willie Parker blast right through our defense.
In closing, you must know that Im still crushed about the loss and my words, but if you and the league are going to fine me for my perverse and untoward words, I ask you to please take into consideration that at least I didnt refer to the officials as zebras. That should count for something.......................... and, Paul, am I off the competition committee?
Regards,
Mike Holmgren
lol................yep a yinzer.
Bummer.
It's much more than a bummer. People who care about the integrity of the game more than any one team don't like to see the Super Bowl managed like a pro wrestling match.
One last (not so) Super Bowl ................... ping
........ and that is you?
Signed, Bruno Sammartino
The Pittsburgh Steelers pick Antonio Cromartie, CB from Florida State with their 32nd pick.
This guy would have gone in the top ten in 07 if he would have stayed in school. He can play safety OR one of the deep ends.
On the 64th pick it will be Derek Hagan, WR, Arizona State.
Thanks, now we know who you are.
That's an interesting set of initials you have. Sort of how you were characterizing your thread back up there.
And the beat goes on! LOL many times over.
I wanted to thank you, though, for obtaining the copy of Mr. Holmgren's letter and posting it for all to enjoy.
This is NOT gloating at all.
By the way, the reason I posted this attempt at a little humor today in the first place was because I do NOT take kindly to anyone, especially a well-respected coach of a professional team who descends to denigrate the officials (INCORRECTLY) to cover for his own team's poor performance and his own lame inabilities in an important game. And I do not take kindly to that same coach who serves to minimalize the hard work and accomplishment of this Pittsburgh team and its coaches with his whining, childish remarks.
So you, sinkspur, can just keep your miserable assertions and out-of-balance comments to yourself. It is plain that you know about as much about football and sportsmanship as Hillary Clinton knows about (take your pick).
****
p.s. Sorry to ping most of you folks, but there is something very serious about what Holmgren did the other day with his public comments.
Remember Gore and his thugs who stole the joy of George Bush and "our" victory the morning after the 2000 election. There were Seven Weeks of Hell after that election night, and all of a sweet and joyous spontaneous victory was not to be, because of the sick machinations of the Democrat machine. To, admittedly a much lesser degree, the same thing has been done by Holmgren and the rest of the opportunists in the media. They have served to diminish the well-deserved joy of a city and a team by blaming the outcome of the game on the officiating......... and to me THAT SUCKS.
Sorry, but it's true.
Some jerks really got their cages rattled. Now they know how it feels. They don't seem to have liked it very much.
lol.
It wasn't easy. Mr. Tagliabue's secretary is a friend of my cousin's sister-in-law's mother.
Right on....... and I was really just trying to be just a little funny.
But as with post # 30, there is a serious side to this also.
Or maybe I'm nuts.
;-)
Of course you realize that post 31 was to you.
Neither you nor I are nuts. As for the rest of the world...
Thanks for the post.
yes....
You're very much welcome.....
Stealers didn't win it fair and square.
