Coach Holmgren Apologizes to Tagliabue (Steeler/Seahawk Alert)
Free Republic ^ | 2/09/06 | self

Posted on 02/09/2006 8:30:25 AM PST by beyond the sea

Dear Mr. Tagliabue,

I’d like to take this opportunity to apologize to you and the league for my intemperate remarks at our ceremony at Qwest Field concerning the officiating during the Superbowl.

On Monday, just one short day after “losing” (oops) the game, I was still burned about the outcome, and I had consumed about a pound of bad jumbo shrimp for lunch, my stomach was churning, and it was just a bad day all around. I came home from Detroit, our cat was missing from the house, the Governor’s dog was hit by a car, and she was blaming me for that. Just real bad all around, Paul.

Paul, I was still stinging from calls that went against our team. It seemed like the bad calls were stacking up as high as the Space Needle.

I’ve always been known as a good and decent man in the community. Well, perhaps except for the time I borrowed my neighbor’s Rototiller to do that work on the Church rose garden .................. heck I didn’t see that rock ............. like I didn’t see that sneaky Steeler trick play coming. My neighbor told me he wouldn’t be using that Rototiller for a good long time, I thought he’d never noticed it was broken. Wosrt thing I ever did, Paul......... until now.

I feel as badly about my comment to the fans, “ "I didn't know we were going to have to play the guys in the striped shirts as well”, as I did about giving my neighbor back his mangled Rototiller. Come to think about it, that Rototiller was as busted as our defense on that Willie Parker blast right through our defense.

In closing, you must know that I’m still crushed about the loss and my words, but if you and the league are going to fine me for my perverse and untoward words, I ask you to please take into consideration that at least I didn’t refer to the officials as zebras. That should count for something.......................... and, Paul, am I off the competition committee?

Regards,

Mike Holmgren

Here's a response from Cowherd about my request for him to stop whining, get over it and move on ....

Next time you write him, let him know Bubba says he's a world-class jagoff. From Cleveland.

Please take me off your ping list.

Me too, beyond the sea. Time to put football season to rest. Next up - the Boys of Summer. ...and hoping the Mariners and Pirates can improve upon their last-place performances of last year.

Cowherd is no Dan Patrick, that's for sure.

Hell, he no Mark Patrick either.

The goalie is good. He just needs some defensemen to play in front of him.

Are any other Dallas teams doing well this year?

Dallas 37-15-3 77
Los Angeles 30-23-5 65
Anaheim 25-19-11 61
San Jose 25-21-8 58
Phoenix 27-27-3 57

Dallas is currently leading Phoenix 4-1 with seven minutes left in the game.

Dallas is first in the Pacific Conference and has more points than any other team in the NHL. In addition, Dallas hasn't lost a shootout this year, something that only one other team (San Jose) can claim.

You're only as good as your next win, Super. Remember that.

Oh, almost forgot. Steelers last win was the Super Bowl. The last win for any NFL team until August.

Are they as good as their last win in your eyes?

Will they be good in your eyes if they win their opener in August?

Or will you continue to hate them no matter what they do?

If they make the Super Bowl again next year, will you think they are a good team? Or will you think the officials got them all the way to the Super Bowl?

If they win the Super Bowl next year, will you think they are a good team? Or will it be more of the same out of you like this year?

It's not the Steeler football team that has been so annoying for the last three days on Free Republic.

No, it has been the Steeler haters and the Steeler detractors and all those who have posted so many negative comments about the Steeler Super Bowl victory and refused to let the Steeler fans have even a moment of joy. We must have seen 3,000 derogatory posts on FR about the Steeler victory. To what point? Steeler fans would have been happy to move on, but we constantly had to defend our team and its victory against people like you, who seem to delight in deliberately provoking us.

You last comment is understood to mean that it is all the Steeler fans fault. Still yet another dig to provoke.

You just can't let it be, can you? Just keep digging, we keep defending and yet you blame us.

So, tell me again how the Steelers didn't deserve to win. Not like we haven't heard it thousands of times at FR since Sunday night. Might as well hear it again from you.

Same old beat. Same old song. Same old tune.

and the Stanley Cup win in 80.

You got that wrong. Penguins won in the 90-91 and 91-92 season. Yhe Islanders won in 1980-1-2.

"We knew it was going to be tough going up against the Pittsburgh Steelers," Holmgren told lost Starbucks customers who stumbled upon the loser's pep rally.

LOL.

i have to admit i have been calling them "shehawks" - pretty mild compared to the spittle-flecked invective hurled at the world champs

That is pretty mild. I have not one problem with their players. They're a talented bunch of good guys. But the coach has turned into a crybaby. Along those lines, did you see post # 92?

I thought Cowher lived in Crafton. Where does he live? Is he Therazaya's neighbor??????????? Tonite my Pittsburgh enthusiasm is cut. Go WVU.......love that Gansy! Hope Pitt gets Pittsnogled!!!!!

I think he's in Fox Chaped, so that makes him Theraaaayza's neighbor alright.

Tunch and Wolf were laughing on their show with a caller yesterday that "Pittsnoggle" had become so polular and well known that his last name was becoming a verb! It IS very catchy, "Darn, I've been Pittsnoggled."

Well, the young tall piece of tatooed timber was shut out (or shut himself out) last night....... zero points -- very unusual to say the least.

But he'll be back. West Virginia is very good and just had one of those bad nights. That's college basketball these days. All these top teams are almost equal in talent.

Had Dallas ever had three major championship wins in the same year?

No, but they have some awfully nice cheerleaders for that football team.

;-)

The Steelers' are nice too.

Yoi, that's pretty sad.

I wonder how many of those shirts they made......... I wouldn't mind having a couple of them.
