If Dan Fouts had been as good as he thought he was, they would have been unbeatable. I still can't believe he had the gall to do those commercials where he compared his career to Kenny Stabler's.

Fouts was out gunned by Jim Plunkett in an AFC title game at home!

Statistically, Fouts was better than Stabler.

FOUTS: 15 seasons, 3,297 passes completed for 43,040 yards (third player ever to pass for more than 40,000 yards) and 254 touchdowns and an 80.2-point rating; rushed for 476 yards 13 touchdowns. Led the NFL in passing yardage four straight years from 1979 to 1982, became the first player in history to throw for 4,000 yards in three consecutive seasons; AFC Player of the Year in 1979; 1982 NFL Most Valuable Player; 1982 AFC Player of the Year; 1982 NFL Offensive Player of the Year ;All-Pro choice in 1979, 1982, and 1985 and All-AFC in 1979 and 1982; played in six Pro Bowls in a seven-year span.

STABLER: 15 seasons, 2,270 passes completed for 27,938 yards, 194 touchdowns; rushed for 118 yards and 4 touchdowns. Four-time Pro Bowler; 4-8 seasons among the league's top 10 in pass attempts, completions, passing yards, passing TDs, and adjusted yards per pass; All-Pro twice, All-AFC three times, AFC Player of the Year twice.
