“I didn’t know we were going to have to play the guys in the striped shirts as well.”

It certainly appeared that way.

One thing I have not yet heard regarding all this "controversy", but before that let's review what the SeaHawk fans are saying:

A) The refs robbed us by bad calls

B) The fix was in from the NFL

C) The refs were paid off so that the Steelers would win.

Now, my question:

If the fix was in, would it not have been in for the underdog? Who has ever heard of fixing a game so that the favored team would win?

Those complaining that the refs blew did not watch it with any objectivity.

Apologist - NOUN:

A person who argues in defense or justification of something, such as a doctrine, policy, or institution (or Steelers)

I don't reply with any substance to foolish generalities like yours. If you want to talk about "bad calls", take one at a time.

Up your butt, that's where.

Given your history, it's quite a feat of restraint on your part in not having used the word momma in that reply.

You really are lacking in any class, whatsoever.

I'm willing to learn. What's the rule!

Here are two explanations: I hope this helps.

from “joyspring777"

“If there is a blocker in front of a runner, and you go down in front of the blocker...you are going to get flagged. That would happen EVEN IF you don't contact the blocker...as you block the blocker from his advantage...and you can't do that. If there is no blocker...you can go low for the tackle, as a quarterback, and save yourself the shoulder impacts.”

***

The Steelers got nailed for it twice in the regular season on INT returns. While I think the way they're applying the rule stinks there would have been a large hue and cry from Steeler nation if they hadn't made the call in the SB given that the Steelers were so familiar with the penalized side of that rule already. As soon as you go low on a blocker, even if you're really trying to go low on a ball carrier and the blocker is just in the way, even if the blocker avoids being hit, it's a foul.

For the past 2 days, you have been a disgrace to FR.

You have been nothing but a foul mouthed, irrational FANatic.

Ugly doesn't begin to describe your behavior.

In response, I don't know that the fix was in from the NFL, nor do I know that the refs were paid off...so your assumptions 2 and 3 are dubious...but as for your question...if there was a fix related to betting it does not follow that it'd be in favor of the underdog if the bettors were betting the Steelers to more than cover the line.

As for your last comment, I submit that it is you who is not viewing it with an objectivity. One one poll (of over 240,000 online, 58% said this super bowl would be remembered for the bad calls. You can assume that the only people responding to the poll are in WA state, but that'd be an unlikely assumption given all the sports reporters and fans of teams other than the Seahawks and Steelers that have stated the same thing.

The truth is, it's uncertain who would have won the game...but if the officiating hadn't been so atrocious it would have been an entertaining game watching who might have won. As it is, it was just an abomination of football.

When push came to shove, Pittsburgh made the big plays< Seattle did NOT.

Maybe Karl Rove was disguised as a ref and they used Diebold to review the calls during the game.

Your problem is that you don't know how to play nice.

You log on to FR (by your own admission) "liquored up" and get all hot and bothered about the most petty of matters.

You need an attitude adjustment.

I'm not liquored up now.

I'm ready for my adjustment.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the game, and the whiners are really bothersome, but I am a little worried about the refs these days.

I hear you. It is a very difficult game to officiate, especially the professional game. The players know the rules and are talented enough to know how to take a rule to its limit. (however sometimes they slide by the limits of the rule)

Also the game becomes tougher to officiate the faster the players are. The pros are the fastest! I've followed football for well over 50 years. There have always been questionable and sometimes incorrect calls. It really can become annoying when they appear to be mostly called against one team in the game. I know, I've been there a few times over the years.

Really, for instance, there are teams over the years that have been well known for their great art of offensive holding. It only is common sense that a team like that will get flagged more often for holding. The same thing applies to certain receivers who love to push off to gain advantage over the defender (Plaxico Burress comes to mind). So receivers such as this will get flagged on that more than a receiver who seldom pushes off.

Anyhow ......

Seattle did not get screwed, but I surely see how some people think so. The calls just seemed to accumulate against them (and most viewers really do not know the rules). But those fans are wrong. Most of those calls were very correct...... especially the Roethlisberger TD. There is a post on another thread that shows CLEARLY that the ball was over (above) the goal line. TD.... yet look at all the fools who still claim he did not score. Stupid!

But, just that particular call, following the others has these somewhat uninformed fans all pissed off and coming to incorrect conclusions. I say to them as directly as I can (because really... their vociferous stupidity has taken away a lot of the joy from Steeler fans from this well-earned and long-awaited victory.)........ I say to them, shut up and learn the damn rules (not you!)

;-)

Holmgren is right, and we as fans need to speak loud and clear to the NFL or they will NEVER change! I can only imagine if the shoe was on the other foot what would have happened, Detroit and Pittsburgh would be burning right now.

The officiating did not affect the final victor in this game.

Seattle had some bad breaks, but they also played poorly and not up to the caliber that they should have. Missed field goals, an untimely interception, 50% pass completion by Hasselback and less then 50% on third down conversions. All of that added up to a loss. The stuff ab out officiating is bull. Which call(s) do you feel prevented them from winning?
