Tulane Recruits Don't Waver

NEW ORLEANS -- Here's a tip: If you're a college football recruiting junkie, think again before following in lockstep praise over the talent haul of Notre Dame, USC and Florida. Let's see who really develops into the five-star players down the road, anyway. And who couldn't draw impressionable kids to those locales?

Now, if the idea is to make this a reality check and toss in dicey obstacles, nobody in the college game pulled in a better class than Chris Scelfo and his Tulane coaching staff. According to the self-ordained experts, they landed an assortment of gritty, two-star athletes. There probably wasn't a kid that a Penn State or a Texas bothered sniffing at. That said, it was a sales job worthy of Dale Carnegie just getting 24 Division I-A prospects to fax their national letters of intent Wednesday morning to a school that only reopened its doors a few weeks ago.

Like most New Orleanians, the Tulane coaching staff is making due and working hard.

They'd better. Being a Loyola student, I am a de facto Tulane fan. It's been painful not cheering for LSU.

Loyola plays Tulane in hoops tomorrow night.

With the marathon and Tulane sports, Mardi Gras, and now the Saints opener, New Orleans is getting back to business.

Great post! I forgot to ping you to the Saints returning to the Dome on Sept. 24 thread.

I have taken a hiatus on the ping list. It's been too nasty. However, this is a good news story.

Go ahead and cheer for LSU. I graduated Tulane, and I do.

If you're waiting to cheer for Tulane, it's a long wait! Sort of like cheering for the Saints.

When I evacuated to Lafayette, I became a default ULL fan.

Over the last year, this forum has really gone to hell in a handbasket. I used to learn a lot here. Now the FR has degenerated into duel colossal vats of ignorance spewing their preconcieved notions at one another.

Katrina and the fact that I am personally affected by it has just made it too over the top.

Yeah, but then when I went to Houston to finish off the semester, a memo was circulated to us by the administration informing us that we were all Astros fans.

I think we jinxed them.

I'm a McNeese alumni and USL was our nemesis until they got the big head and thought they were on a par with LSU and changed their name.

Yall didn't jinx the Astros, they just choked.
