What is Montana's problem? He is so special he wants $100,000 while the others come for game tickets (no small bonus), plane tickets and $1,000 expense cash?

Montana is classless! Notre Dame is talking to him this morning, no doubt, and letting him have an ear full! What a fool!

I am looking for more info on Bradshaw. Neither of these guys should be hurting.

This is a mistake they will regret the rest of their lives, or should if they have any character.

Wow. I always thought Montana was pretty respectable. I may have to rethink.

Why would anyone pay Montana 100K to attend the SuperBowl. As if his appearance would boost attendance?

Talk about ultimate greed. A cheap and classless act like this by Joe Montana will make a dark spot in his record.

This is disconcerting. I like both Bradshaw and Montana. I'll still like them, but this will be a mark I won't forget next time something negative happens.

Good for Montana! He doesnt owe the NFL anything and for them , not to pay him for his time is outrageous! Im glad he took a
stand, how much $ did the NFL make on this horrible event? How much $ have they fined players this year? They cant afford $100,000? Good job Joe dont let them use you!

Former MVPs were given $1,000 for incidental expenses while in Detroit

There's your reason.

Name the "sources." Otherwise, this is just like some WP or NYT article.

Maybe Bradshaw did not want to appear on ABC. Maybe Montana did not want to tell the NFL his real reason for declining to be there.

It was neat to see Bart Starr and Broadway Joe. Roll Tide!

Montana's overrated anyway he largely benefitted from the West Coast Offense.

It should be called the "dumping the ball off quickly to save your behind" offense, and began the deterioration of hard-nosed football.

On this very site yesterday, there was a post from a Bay Area newspaper article about former NFL players and the pain they live with from injuries sustained during their playing days. Joe Montana was one of the featured players, and Montana referenced how the NFL just sued him for filing for medical expenses (he's getting a knee fixed), coverage he was awarded after winning his case against the 49ers and their workers comp responsibility. So as far as I'm concerned, I can see why Montana told them to stick it. They'll run him out onto their big stage for their benefit, but away from the spotlight, they're screwing him over. Good for Joe.

Whatever. Joe's still the greatest QB to ever play the game. IMO.

Hey Joe (if the report of this is true)... this will dog you for eternity.

The next NFL-sponsored event you attend - all fans, players, former players will be wondering "How much coin did it take to get you to grace us with your presnece."

For the record, I'm a Dallas Cowboy hater, so by default a 49er fan. My real team is the Washington Redskins.

What is Montana's problem?

You are assuming that both the reporter and their "anonymous sources" (if they exist) are telling the truth about the reasons Montana and Bradshaw were not present.

What possible rational basis do you have for accepting this (anonymous) REPORTERS hit piece based on anonymous sources?

I repeat: IT'S A REPORTER!!!!!!!

Lying is their business.

Maybe it's true. Maybe it's not. There is NOTHING in this article and no other source given to support this story.
