I would also do away with the "ground can't cause a fumble" rule. If you don't have the ball put away...tough.
Part of the problem is that the NFL rules are so subject to interpretation. Was his knee down before the ball came out, let's go to the instant replay. That's garbage.

I would also do away with the "ground can't cause a fumble" rule. If you don't have the ball put away...tough. The ground damn well can cause a fumble -- if Hasslebeck hadn't been grazed by the defender, he wouldn't have been down by contact and the fumble would have stood.
