Sugar-salt solution Sugar-salt solution (SSS) is a home-made version of ORS containing salt (sodium chloride), sugar (sucrose) and water. The following combination is recommended - 3g (half a level standard 5ml teaspoon) of salt; 18g (four level teaspoons) of sugar; dissolved in one litre of water.
Severe dehydration constitutes a medical emergency requiring immediate IV rehydration. Lactated Ringer's (LR) solution, normal saline, or a similar solution should be administered (20 mL/kg body weight) until pulse, perfusion, and mental status return to normal
