In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
sang-froid, also sangfroid \sang-FRWAH\, noun
Freedom from agitation or excitement of mind; coolness in trying circumstances; calmness.
Example sentences:
Both men were mightily impressed by the calmness of the Americans on board, particularly among the women. "I had, during my sojourn in America," Beaumont said later, "a thousand occasions to see the sang-froid of the American."
--Michael Kammen, "Wrecked on the Fourth of July," New York Times, July 6, 1997
Gaviria knew Alberto as an impulsive but cordial man capable of maintaining his sangfroid under the most stressful circumstances.
--Gabriel Garcia Marquez, News of a Kidnapping
Etymology: Sang-froid is from the French; it literally means "cold blood" (sang, "blood" + froid, "cold").
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

WFB's attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
She sang the anthem at one of our hockey games recently, because she's pushing her new reality show. She is one scary-looking, robust gal.
A+ for you dubs! Who are you rooting for this weekend?
oh the dogs are ADORABLE!
I want to bring the sad one in front home. But I'm not allowed pets in my apartment. Except, of course, for the complimentary silverfish and cock-a-roaches so thoughtfully provided for me. :^)
oh arghy, every boy should have a dog!
And tonight every Argh should have a number of beers and a bottle of red wine and Carmina Burana on the stereo and a hockey game on the TV with the sound off and a large T-bone steak and baked potato with sour cream and chives and spinach and tomato salad with croutons and balsamic vinaigrette dressing. And he will.
oh yummy, invite me, invite me!
Weimers and Russian Blues? They're darling! Are you having a grey day, Arghy?
Mmm. Sounds good.
Come on over! Bring your cleaning materials!
Not me, although it is cloudy here. It's supposed to rain up to 4 inches here over the next 24 hours, but it hasn't started yet.
(Robt looks at fax machine. Hungrily.)
(Very hungrily.)
(Very, very hungrily.)
Sure does. I'm going nuts here at work thinking about it.
# 88, in case you're interested.
:^)
I doubt it. This is the first I've heard of it.
It was just featured on Fox, it's on this weekend. I thought all you guys would know what it was. ;)
