In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

sang-froid, also sangfroid \sang-FRWAH\, noun
Freedom from agitation or excitement of mind; coolness in trying circumstances; calmness.

Example sentences:

Both men were mightily impressed by the calmness of the Americans on board, particularly among the women. "I had, during my sojourn in America," Beaumont said later, "a thousand occasions to see the sang-froid of the American."
--Michael Kammen, "Wrecked on the Fourth of July," New York Times, July 6, 1997

Gaviria knew Alberto as an impulsive but cordial man capable of maintaining his sangfroid under the most stressful circumstances.
--Gabriel Garcia Marquez, News of a Kidnapping

Etymology: Sang-froid is from the French; it literally means "cold blood" (sang, "blood" + froid, "cold").

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Words like” bourgeois,” and “sang-froid”
Are the kind that I avoid.
French pronunciation flaws,
Are painful, like a hemorrhoid.

TEXAS? TEXAS? What the h311 have THEY EVER learned about BBQ?

Beef brisket, OK, sure. Whole cows cooked in a range fire, OK.

BBQ? They couldn't tell that from a rattlesnake biting them on the a$$.

This should stir up some contriversy.

Texas girl, do NOT take this personally, I only included you to enjoy me tweaking SG.

How could anyone from Jersey upset me about Texas BBQ? It would take someone with much more cultivated tastes than a Jersey boy..... No offense Loney

The term used to be "If you've got 'em, flaunt 'em" but now the phrase is "When you get 'em, flaunt 'em" ;^)
