In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

sang-froid, also sangfroid \sang-FRWAH\, noun
Freedom from agitation or excitement of mind; coolness in trying circumstances; calmness.

Example sentences:

Both men were mightily impressed by the calmness of the Americans on board, particularly among the women. "I had, during my sojourn in America," Beaumont said later, "a thousand occasions to see the sang-froid of the American."
--Michael Kammen, "Wrecked on the Fourth of July," New York Times, July 6, 1997

Gaviria knew Alberto as an impulsive but cordial man capable of maintaining his sangfroid under the most stressful circumstances.
--Gabriel Garcia Marquez, News of a Kidnapping

Etymology: Sang-froid is from the French; it literally means "cold blood" (sang, "blood" + froid, "cold").

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Take you out? Can't you cook one (or some) at home? Hell, I'd take you out for one, but I'm pretty sporty. :^)

It was certainly warmer today. The current temperature is 61o.

But at the time of my posting it was closer to 34o. Fortunamtely, I was posting from my den, and not from the woods.

I don't know if I would trust that fax machine technology, Robert. I don't think it's totally proven ...

Home from work at a decent hour today-hubby's office closes early on Fridays, so I was able to avoid the worst traffic when picking him up-happily, he will be driving himself to work again Monday-

Those who bitch about spying
On terrorists and their kind
Are not only living in Lala Land
But are also out of their mind

To say W should have made public
Every detail before our spooks could spy
Have forgotten X42's smiling sang-froid
When using files from the FBI

To intimidate, harrass and stifle
Those who opposed queen Hillary and him
And if they resisted or fought back
The outlook became rather grim

I didn't find anyone to buy me a steak dinner.............but I did find someone to take my child off my hands for a few hours so hubby and I could have some adult time with with some other adults (and adult beverages).

I needed it after having to deal with the horrendous traffic that is so danged typical of the beach areas of Delaware...........and the roads are the pits also.

I was tickled pink to hit the Maryland line...........

I made it known last night that today I intend only to read, do laundry, drive the 20 miles to the grocery store at my leisure and be taken out to dinner this evening. I'm starting on the first activity right now...

I accomplished my only major goal of the day already.........to sleep in :)

Actually I do plan on making a coupl of batches of jelly today, hubby has gone to the store to get me a new stockpot for just that purpose. And I have to boil eggs for the devilled eggs I'm making for tomorrow's Superbowl party at the Lodge.

We have a SuperBowl party as well. Can't even recall how long it has been that we have gone there each year. I think it started before the daughter........and she is almost 22. It is now an hour and a half ride though. I am looking forward to it.

Hubby and I are headed out to lunch soon - our weekly time together. Workout is complete, laundry done.....now I relax the rest of the day. :^)

I don't normally do superbowl parties, because hubby works on Sundays. But another couple offerred to pick Jax and I up, along with the food, and hubby will meet us there when he gets home from work.

Enjoy your lunch!

We will be watching the super bowl at home-the only party out here is held each year at a tavern where you sit with your back to the wall if you're smart-also referred to as a "knife and gun club" by anyone who has gone in there.

We think the next door neighbors may have separated because the husband came home briefly yesterday evening then left again and I've seen a tall, plump, sort of dykey-looking blonde being all kissy-cozy on the deck with the wife. F***ing great-just what I wanted when we are getting ready to put our house on the market-loud, hysterical lesbians who have whirligigs and pink flamingos in the yard of their house that looks like a 2 story doublewide next door. I'm sure that will really make our house a must have for normal people with the money to buy this place...
