I hope they take Stevens off the field on a stretcher with a career-ender.Niiiiiice sentiment there. Does anyone know what Stevens actually said that was so patently offensive?
I believe it was, when asked about the Jerome Bettis coming home to Detriot story (has anyone heard that one yet?), something to the effect of "It's a neat story, too bad he won't get his ring."
Wow...how incredibly offensive. What gall to actually think that his team is capable of winning the game against the mighty Steelers.
He didn't say "We are going to push them around the field like ragdolls" or "I predict I will catch two touchdown passes on Sunday" or even the old reliable "I guarantee a win". He just made a snide remark to a stupid question regarding a very overhyped story.
Perhaps he should have raised a white flag and said that Jerome deserves his ring and he had chosen not to play on Sunday because he didn't want to interfere with Bettis' homecoming.
Give me a break.
He said "when." He should have said "if." Out of that, Super Controversy arises.
The idea that he should be injured for that is abhorrent. Merely being humiliated is enough.
