Nic Bullen of Napalm Death can sound remarkably like the Cookie Monster; his performance on the band's 1987 debut "Scum" (Earache)--which contains 28 songs, 11 of which are under one minute in length, including "You Suffer," which clocks in at less than two seconds--is a virtual Cookie Monster tribute. Frank Mullen of Suffocation, whose 1991 album "Effigy of the Forgotten" (Roadrunner) is considered a model of death-metal music, sounds like an especially malevolent Cookie Monster.Isn't this a rip off of S.O.D (Stormtroopers of Death)?

I enjoy the musical stylings of the Swedish progressive death metal band Opeth. They have a blend of Cookie Monster and "clean" vocals. Their songs are epic in scope and length.
I'm not that familiar with other bands, but I once purchased a CD called "Deathmeister" as a gag. That one was quite amusing--the lead track was "I will kill you" by Cannibal Corpse. I would usually blare it at toll booths and elicted odd looks from the workers there.

I like how the writer interviews the Sesame Workshop folks and the guy who did Cookie Monster's voice back in the day. They have no light to shed on the subject, but their inclusion is a clever touch.
