Pregnant Steelers Fan Makes Plans To Be Induced

(KDKA) A pregnant Steelers fan is not letting the birth of her baby get in the way of the Super Bowl celebrations.

She convinced her doctor to induce her early, so she'll be home in time to watch the Super Bowl with all of her friends.

Baby Alexandria is just a blurry image of a baby right now, but she'll enter the world with a wardrobe of Steelers clothes, her birth scheduled around the Super Bowl.

“The Super Bowl is like Christmas,” said Carrie Welling, of New Kensington. “The fact that the Steelers are going - that's what you live for.”

Welling is due the day before the Super Bowl, but when she screams through the game, she doesn't want it to be from labor pains.

The Wellings show their Steelers pride in their towel-waving daughter Abigail, home-made black and gold Cabbage Patch doll, their decorations outside and much more.

“We got the labor and delivery socks, they always tell you to wear warm socks and everything,” Welling said. “I've had them since 16 years old, the last time they went to the Super Bowl.”

Welling started putting the pressure on her doctor as soon as she learned her due date, but the doctor wanted to make sure it was safe, and that the Steelers were actually going to the Super Bowl.

“Two weeks ago, I said, we're talking. I have to be induced. I cannot be in the hospital for the Super Bowl,” Welling said.

The doctor gave the O.K., but it was almost too late.

During the stressful finish to the Steelers game against Indianapolis, Welling went into serious contractions.

With her black and gold bandana tied to her hospital bag and the baby's going-home Steelers outfit ready to go inside, the Wellings are ready to head to Magee on Wednesday

This is right up there with the Arizona woman who tried to auction off her pregnant belly for advertisers on eBay.

Anyone know what happened with that? As far as I know, she got a TON of press for that, and how many bids? Zero.

ya gotta love alle-kiski valley humor, it is such a niche-market!

Sorry, that's the only one I know. A college roommate used to make quips about the "Great Wall of Etna."

Interesting.

The wife and daughter of Seattle Seahawk's head coach Mike Holmgren, on the other hand, won't be at the game. They will be on a medical mission trip to the Congo. What's More Important Than Super Bowl XL?

To reach the remote area in Karawa, the team will travel over marginal roads that narrow to near non-existence, wade through streams and cross rough-hewn and often improvised bridges. "It takes three days to get in and three days to get out," says Thorpe.

While the world tunes into the Super Bowl being played in Detroit on Sunday, February 5, the missionaries will begin training the hospital staff, which often must use rudimentary equipment to treat 2,500 patients a month.

How's that for priorities?
