It's a wonderful film. It shows that two men can "go gay" and that they aren't necessarily born that way. And then they have to suffer for two decades because they can't get the help they need because the A.P.A. delisted homosexuality as a mental disorder.

Even if this movie turns a profit I'm still not buying the idea that its popular.
Its making money because the homosexual lobby in this country is very organized and very powerful. I can just see gays advising each other to run out and buy hundreds of dollars worth of tickets to this to make its box office look good.

Same to ya...just because it makes meager earnings at the box office and a bunch of Hollywood gay wads want to give it awards doesn't mean its a popular movie.
Popular means everyone is going to see it. It means that it grosses hundreds of millions. Popular means that a major portion of movie goers are excited and upbeat about seeing it. I don't know a single person in my area who has seen it or even wants to see it. Heck, I don't even think our theaters around here want to show this trash.
There is absolutely no way a movie can be considered to be a hit when the vast majority of America is sickened by the very prospect of it. It may be a big hit to the left and to gay America, but to majority of Americans its just more Hollywood filth.

"Popular" means it's popular with the audience. You can parse it away way you want, but just because we don't like something does that mean we just deny it's a success? Wow, that's creepy. And just because you don't know anyone who's seeing it because of shared moral point of view doesn't mean many others aren't seeing it.
"Meager" earnings? This thing just got nominations for the Oscars today, hasn't even opened in all the theaters it's going to end in, OR all the foreign theaters, OR gone to DVD OR pay or regular TV and it's deep into profit.
Liberals are the ones who simply invent new truths when they run into inconvenient ones. I guess some conservatives drop their rigid standards when they feel like it, but not me.

"Popular" means it's popular with the audience.
OK then...if we go by that logic...There is porn theater in my town that is open from 10 to 2 in the morning. The leaches that go there are just crazy about the filthy movie that is currently showing. So, I guess that makes it a hugely popular smash hit as well? I'll keep an eye out for it to pick up some Oscars.
When Joe Schmo American is standing in line to get tickets to this piece of crapolla then it will be popular...popular as in "pop culture", which includes our entire society's opinions of what is entertaining and not just the opinions of the homosexual minority.
Liberals are also the ones who invent fantasies about the popularity of their idiotic ideas and social practices, and then try to force the rest of us agree with their lunacy.

I'll keep an eye out for it to pick up some Oscars. You're an extremely silly person if you are seriously trying to compare the size of the audience for a porn flick with a movie that's going to win awards. When did I say that popularity meant it should win awards?
Answer: I didn't. I suppose if your kid put on a play and the audience enjoyed it, it wasn't REALLY popular with the audience, because the audience wasn't as big as your local porn theater's latest showing. When you have to compare apples and oranges--popularity with Oscar-level technical quality---your desperation is obvious.
When Joe Schmo American is standing in line to get tickets to this piece of crapolla then it will be popular...popular as in "pop culture", which includes our entire society's opinions of what is entertaining and not just the opinions of the homosexual minority.
There's nothing in our popular culture that includes our entire society's opinions of what is entertaining. What meets that silly definition--Casablanca? Gone With the Wind? Ask anyone under 18 whether they prefer those to the latest teen flick. How about The Passion? Our entire society's opinion is in agreement on that? Really? On what planet?
Liberals are also the ones who invent fantasies about the popularity of their idiotic ideas and social practices, and then try to force the rest of us agree with their lunacy.
Yep. That doesn't mean people living in a fantasy world that denies the popularity of this movie are not equally deluded, and deluding.

Well..you were seriously trying to compare the size of the audience who went to see BB mountain to the size of the audience who would actually go to see a truly popular movie...I made my analogy to show you how ridiculous yours was...I see that you got the point.

I can only imagine what will be in the DVD extras and outtakes?
Maybe the director will want a extended special edition.

No, I never tried any such thing, and it's interesting that you are choosing to declare victory and retreat. I was merely illustrating how YOUR attempt to do that was silly. So yes, I did get the point: You can't argue the point so you go off on a meaningless tangent.
I said the movie was popular with its audience. The movie is still aquiring that audience. Unlike, say, King Kong, which while still in release is heading toward the end of its run, BBM is only gaining steam, and when it wins the inveitable Oscars it will continue to do so. It is growing in popularity, and its audience is spreading the word. As opposed to, say, the Matrix sequels which opened huge but had bad word of mouth.
If you can't grasp that simple concept, there's no helping you.

So predictable...they won't agree with us so we go into a rant and retreat all the while accusing them of going into a rant and retreating first.
I am never going to agree that this filth is popular by any definition of the word. So, just give it up. You're going to give yourself an aneurysm.
Like I said, when it makes a few hundred million we can reopen the discussion about its popularity, but for now its just an over hyped, gay, soft porn flick.
I'm really starting to wonder why you are so obsessed with making people believe that this trash is popular, but then that's grounds for an entirely different argument.

This is why the gay lobby is so successful. They are united, unlike the rest of us. They pull together, push together, and spend together. They know when and where to put their money to best further their agenda.

You can't win on facts, so you go for personal attacks. How DUmmie-like and immature. Grow up.

I tried to discuss the financial and social issues that will ultimately make this movie popular or not popular, but as soon as you couldn't logically rebut you just went nutters on me.
It's pointless to try and debate a topic with someone who has no intention of seeing the other person's point of view no matter how intelligent their point is.
And so, the conversation has degraded into a mindless argument that's doing nothing but eating up FreeRepublic bandwidth.
If you want to continue this I will be glad to argue with you for the next twenty years or so if that will make you happy.
Maybe you'll get lucky and Americans will actually change their minds and decide that they should stand in line for tickets to the load of crap and you might actually have a chance of winning this argument.
