The Dixie Chicks were humming along as a darling country music trio until one night in March 2003 in London. Lead singer Natalie Maines slammed President George W. Bush at a concert and announced to the British crowd, "We're ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas."
That didn't sit well with country music fans then, and now Maines says she's finished with the genre and is none too pleased with the fans, basically labeling them as redneck hicks.

Here's a link that describes the history of the term "redneck." Hubby will be more than proud to be called a redneck now.
lol
You must be a redneck, too!
Just another militant lesbosexual
I guess I should put the link:

Good heavens I was going to post something profound about this topic but after reading Natalie's holier than thou ramblings in the full article all I can hear in my head is a screeching "ya ya ya ya ya ya ya...." Good riddance.
They're new album will be like the Eagles?!? Sorry, Chickies, but Eagles fans will NOT appreciate that and certainly won't support you. The country is finished with them.
I guess that is her version of liberal love and understanding. So much for the open-mindedness of the libs...
Have a nice career stupid!
Ya'll do remember Natalie was married to a Mid-Easterner. What ever happened with him?
There is nobody more intolerant that a far lefty!
Hopefully, their next concert tour does not sell out.
Unless they hold it in Berkeley, CA, or Greenwich Village, NY, it will not sell out.
Strike that. Put it on the campus of any major college or university, and you may get enough psuedo-intellectual lefties willing to waste their money.
No - I'm talking about the major stadiums that were (coincidentally) sold out last time around.
Gee, I always thought the term redneck referred to people who were outside a lot and their necks got sunburned.
Well, we can only hope they have pissed off enough people to make sure that will not happen again.
As I recall, the concert dates here in the U.S. were already sold out when Natalie made her attacks. However, it has been a long time since then - the American public has a short memory - rightly or wrongly. Also, no WMDs were found in the intervening time period and Bush's approval ratings have dipped. When did their latest CD come out, and if it already did, how are sales going?
I don't think it has come out yet, but I may be wrong. From what I have read, it is pretty much an attack on Country Music fans.
Well, it was time for another genre hop anyway, wasn't it?
Let's hope their next fan base learns that lesson quickly.
