"...only one other team has won as many championships (five)"

Um...WRONG!!

NFL history did not begin with the NFL expansion that included the Dallas Cowboys. Green Bay, Chicago, and NY Giants all have more NFL championships than the Cowboys. And the 49ers and Redskins have as many.

Most NFL Championships: Green Bay Packers 12, Chicago Bears 9, New York Giants 6, Dallas Cowboys 5, San Francisco 49ers 5, Washington Redskins 5, Cleveland Browns 4, Detroit Lions 4, Pittsburgh Steelers 4.

It does seem like most folks think NFL history began with Super Bowl I. I always trip up people when I ask them how many NFL titles have the Vikings won? They always answer "none" because the Vikes are 0-4 in the SB. The answer is one because they won the last NFL title in 1969 before the merger before losing Super Bowl IV to the Chiefs.

Okay, make that "Super Bowls."

Now, tell me how many Super Bowls have the Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears, New York Giants, Washington Redskins, Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions or Pittsburgh Steelers gone to... Dallas have been in 8.

How many Super Bowls have the Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears, New York Giants, Washington Redskins, Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions or Pittsburgh Steelers won? Dallas has won 5 and the Steelers have a good chance to equal that.

Matter of fact, I hope they do, so I can say, "What took you guys so long?"

You have to understand that most of the those teams got thirty year head start on Dallas, but let's look at the NFL/NFC championship as a whole, I did not include the AFL/AFC or AAFC statistics:

Washington Redskins 7 5 0.583
Chicago Bears 7 6 0.538
N.Y. Giants 6 11 0.353
Philadelphia Eagles 5 4 0.556
San Francisco 49ers 5 7 0.417
St. Louis (LA) Rams 5 9 0.357
Detroit Lions 4 2 0.667
Minnesota Vikings 4 4 0.500
Cleveland Browns 4 7 0.364
Baltimore Colts 3 1 0.750
