Republican Unity

Posted on 01/28/2006 12:41:01 PM PST by spikeytx86

I have been here for about a month now and have had a great time discussing current events and politics. But when it comes to who shall be crowned our nominee things get bloody in a hurry. So I thought that maybe we need to discuss someone who will please us and unite us but also at the same time defeat hillary and unite the country behind us and our vision.

McCain and Giuliani though could beat hillary seem to be way to devicive and would divide us when we most need to stand together in which the democrats could exploit. Pataki in a word... no. Romney has promise but he is very opportunistic and tends to govern with his thumb in the wind. Allen is a great guy and is dedicated to our vision but is not very telegenic or charismatic but nontheless would be a choice to consider. Pence is a mid westearner and outsider and a dedicated conservative and would be an excellent choice. He dose lack name recognition but that could play well for him because it would further the appearance of being an "outsider". Brownback is another midwesterner and dedicated conservative. He is well liked by the party and would play well with women due to his dedication to stop the sex trade and human trafficking and slavery, he would definitely be someone who could be seen as carring the mantle of lincoln I personally put him at number one.

There are many others as well, basically lets discuss who should get the nomination and there chances of uniting the party and the country behind our party and cause and crushing hillary.

This is how we pick the nominee. This is not "divisive" this is PROCESS. It's called Democracy. We trash out our difference and pick the candidate most able to suit all of us.

Allen seems very good to me on the issues. Possibly not quite as intelligent as I'd like, I'm not sure.

Pence seems someone who is good on a number of issues and, in addition, is quite intelligent. But Pence has some gaps in the issues I need to hear about. For example, the border issue.

I know everyone here tends to hate McCain, but in a general election I would work for him against Hillary.

Jim put a neat feature in the posting interface. It says "spell". Other word processing applications that you may use also have this feature. And one called "grammar". Not to bust on you too harshly.

thats true, we need to sometimes butt heads and hash things out until we find a candidate that suits us. But sometimes we get sidetracked and start focusing on attacking eachother then on finding a compromise and that my friends is exactly what the dems are looking for, an opening to exploit and to divide us. They want another 1964 where we will split into two wings and end up losing in a land slide (though to there dismay it ended up kicking them in the arss since 1980!).

I think McCain is personally a good man but he is very opportunistic and dose not seem to be very loyal to the party. He would beat hillary hypothetically in an election however those polls dont factor in the blood shed of a highly contested primary.

The person who should get the nomination is the person who earns it through the process. I do take issue though with characterizing Allen as not being telegenic or charismatic and not mentioning the same about Pence and Brownback.

Some times I forget that the feature is there. Will try and remember more often however.

Thank you for saying quite well what I couldn't!

It is so sad to me that even 19-year olds (spikeytx86) can't spell...I assume these are at least high school graduates, but maybe not. On the other hand, when I read such poorly written postings, I have to wonder if it's just another poor, misguided DU'er, who's just hoping they'll take up a little more of Mr. Jim's bandwidth.

I know that, I am just trying to see if we can agree on someone.

"I do take issue though with characterizing Allen as not being telegenic or charismatic and not mentioning the same about Pence and Brownback"

It's not an attack on allen but it is the truth, I do think that with a little work though he would come off great. I have never seen pence speak so I cant comment on him but I have seen several interviews with brownback and I think he comes off pretty good.

Real trolls usually go right to breaking news for their diatribe. Sleepers will sniff around a little, link to their favorite website, and brag a little. We shall see on this one.

I'm in college mam, and English was never a strong suit for me.Thats why I am thankful I live in the era of spell check. However, I am curious as to how that makes me a democrat? or were you just attacking me to attack me?

I am going on the assumption that you are a high school graduate. Exactly WHERE in Texas did you graduate from high school? I plan to complain to the governor, both senators, and my congressman for allowing such a waste of money and time. Any English teacher who teaches so few grammatical and spelling skills should be fired.

If you didn't make it through high school, my apologies. Otherwise, someone should be notified of the lack of teaching you were given.

George Allen deserves a look. McCain is conservative enough but his mavarick style turns off many people. You're right Giuliani is out. Too liberal to get the GOP nomination. Newt Gingrich might be acceptable, but he has too much baggage.

Slim pickens so far. In 18 months the choices will be more obvious.

I was home schooled mam, since you have shown yourself keen to personal attacks you can blame my mother. I am just curious mam, is there a reason your insulting me?

Why not hold off on the personal attacks until he does something to warrant your attention. Unless you know something about this FReeper that I don't know. I really don't think he's a troll. Cut'em some slack.

Just don't tell me, Sir, that you are attending Texas A&M. We Aggies would be mortified. And that's "Ma'am". With great hope that you are majoring in something that won't require spell check, very much writing that requires capitalization or use of apostrophes, I remain respectfully yours.

p.s. It has been my observation, over many years, that quite a number of democrats can neither spell, think straight, nor understand truth from fiction.

I like Newt but he has a lot of baggage (cheating on his wife and serving her with divorce papers while she was undergoing treatment for cancer to start.) I like Allen with a little prep he would make a great candidate. McCain seems to divisive. Probably by labor day we will have a better selection of contenders.

I am going to North Harris College in Spring, Tx. I have been accepted to Texas Tech and am waiting on notification from Baylor and UT-Austin. I know I am the new guy and stuff and I have to earn trust and respect but unless I have done something I am not aware of could you lay off a bit.

Is there a particular candidate you think should get the nod? I would love to discuss it.
