It will not surprise me at all to find out he had a heart attack. Chris Penn had gained a huge amount of weight the last few years and has looked quite poor the last year or so.
MY condolences to the Penn family. He was the talented one.

I was gonna' write, booze and drugs...someone else beat me to it, not that I was racing, mind you.
Yes, in this case, I would certainly anticipate those as causes before much of anything else. Alcohol has a way of piling on the poundage, and a lot of people resort to cocaine to try to lose them, then get hooked on the "I can still drink" myth ("as long as I can use coke!") myth.
