LOS ANGELES, California (Hollywood Reporter) -- Rawson Marshall Thurber ("Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story") has signed on to write and direct the big-screen adaptation of "Magnum P.I.," the 1980s series that made Tom Selleck a star.
"Magnum P.I.," which ran on CBS from 1980 to 1988, followed the adventures of Thomas Magnum, a Navy intelligence officer-turned-private investigator hired by wealthy author and playboy Robin Masters to oversee security on the latter's massive Hawaii estate.

"Oh my God, Magnum."
Hollywood philosophy.....throw enough old sh*t at the wall and some of it will stick...
You know, I never caught the last episode, was Higgins really Robin Masters the whole time?
Also, I'd like to see Mr. T. in the role of T.C. "Thomas, what kind of a mess have you gotten us into with yo jibba jabba, FOOL!?!?!"

(If what I just wrote makes you sad or angry,
If they're going to do this, they'd better do it right and NOT screw it up.
They are already doing a big-screen version of "The A-Team."
No way Tom Selleck could still be in the role.
Greatest episode was when Magnum shot Ivan on the side of the road.
Good stuff.
Higgins did not turn out to be Robbin Masters if I remember correctly.
It's so long ago that I can't remember what the ending was.
Did you get to meet Tom Selleck?
He is dishy in my book!
BTW welcome to Free Republic.
Something to look forward to ping.
Maybe, as long as they don't get a pretty boy (DiCaprio, Alfleck etc.) to play Magnum. Maybe Tom will come back.
Tom Selleck has said in interviews that he'd like to do a "Where is Magnum and his friends 20 years later?" kind of episode/special. He also stated that it would have to be done right or he wouldn't do it. Wonder if he'll be involved in this.
Maybe Roger Mosley (T.C.) could play the role of B.A. Baracus in The A Team. Except Mosley knows how to fly a helicopter and it might cause some friction between him and Murdock. And since B.A. was deathly afraid of flying (remember the episode where they hypnotized him to pass out using the word "eclipse" so he could fly, but then towards the end, when they were pinned down in a fire fight and Face yelled "Gimme-clips" which totally sounded like eclipse and B.A. passed out?) I'd have a hard time buying it. But two choppers would definitely be cooler than just one. They could put a machine gun or a rocket launcher on the side of the Island Hoppers chopper.
Oh, and just so's fellas don't think I'm some kind of a dopey, t.v. drama watching junky, I only saw each show once, on a rainy afternoon when it was too wet to go out and play.

(If what I just wrote makes you sad or angry,
Didn't Magnum die in the end, or was that a dream?
They were ending the show and they had him die. I guess they convinced Tom Selleck to do one more season so as he was walking into the light he stopped and decided to walk back. That is the way I remember it but that was a long time ago.
I thought he woke up next to Suzanne Pleshette.
Thanks for clearing up my fuzzy memory.
Have you been watching the Jesse Stone movies? Selleck is really good in those, too. He's made 2 and another is to be shown this spring (CBS)
I hope it will become a series.

You are thinking of Pamela Ewing. ;^)
The one line from the one episode that I will always remember is:
"Tell me, Ivan. Did you see the sunrise this morning?"
Fans of Magnum will know that one. Great stuff.
