MARRIAGE is the death of hope," Woody Allen once said. But not for everyone. In New York, where eligible men are few and far between, single women who endure long stretches of unwilled celibacy may resort to cheating with someone else's husband because it seems like the only hope - consequences be damned.
In December, I slept with a married man - late 50s, attractive, smart and successful. He's been with his wife forever, a lifestyle to which he is completely wedded, one that I had no intention of jeopardizing. Any guilt I might have felt was further assuaged by the fact that the man already had a roguish reputation. Since it had been two months that I'd gone without any skin-to-skin contact and I was too impatient to go through another round of dating rigmarole - the dinners, the chitchat, the sizing each other up - I reached out to him.
It was mid-afternoon when we met for a late lunch at a forgettable sushi place near 42nd Street. Since we weren't on a traditional "date," there was no need to conceal our vulnerabilities in order to make a good first impression. I was relaxed, and enjoyed being open with and appreciated by a man without even having to try.
Afterward, he put his arm around me and steered me to West 45th Street to Hotel QT, a sense of furtiveness lending a sexy dangerousness to our imminent entwinement. Entering the room, we anxiously pulled off our clothes, tearing back the bedcovers.

I wasn't even talking about the cheating husband, I was talking about the slut who wrote the article.
I know, but that's just a riff on the same theme. The woman doesn't see anything wrong because she has the opportunity and goes for it. We do have to wonder, in her case, why she isn't enjoying opportunities with single men.
Maybe there are no takers.
I am SO tempted to photoshop a sign on her forehead with, "Do Me," written on it.

I,for one,often find myself in a situation in which I could engage in some crime/wrongdoing/slimey activity.
But apart from occasionally doing 5 mph over the speed limit or using my Dad's handicapped placard to avoid feeding a parking meter (I never use it to park in a handicapped space),I don't do it.One has choices.
And there are women who prefer affairs with married men as they don't have to worry about entanglements, i.e. he will always go back to his wife and kids.

I think you're right in a lot of cases. We're all so busy these days, the biggest element to fidelity is probably not morality, but scheduling.

LOL! Probably not. Although women have virtually unlimited opportunities to cheat in American society, coupled with an almost infinite capacity to rationalize doing so. Her actions are not, unfortunately, the least bit unusual in these times. And that's much more a critique of society than of her.
Of course one has choices: sometimes the choice to cheat seems like a really good idea at the time.

Nope. None of the above apply. It does not take that much.
Single women who would have "affairs" (the polite way of putting it!)with married men fail to understand that there are a lot of men out there that think with a much smaller head than the one on their shoulder.
This woman thinks it's all about "me, me me". Her pleasure - her needs. Where do her kids fit in? Well, I guess they will respect her mother for "expressing herself". Right?
In my opinion, she's a sad, sad woman, a dried up husk of a person, who will do whatever she thinks proper for her needs without giving due consideration for her children and the legacy she will leave them and their children.
Sadly, I think that's probably the biggest factor.
