The DJIA lost over 200 points in trading today on the New York Stock Exchange, the largest drop in nearly three years.
Analysts are poring over The Evil One's tape, looking for any clue that might pinpoint the location where it was made.
Crude oil reachd a price of nearly $69/bbl.

Here is something that I actually griped about in RCIA this evening. We have people who leave while the recessional is sung, and quite a few who leave right after communion! Here I am, standing and singing, and there are people heading down the aisle so fast you would think they were evacuating because of a bomb scare! Jeesh!
And I come from the "sing all verses" wing of the Methodist Church, so I am having to get used to this "only sing the first two verses" stuff.
However, I long ago gave up on good church music, so it doesn't enter into my appreciation of the service. I simply go home and put on my CD of old hymns accompanied by orchestra, and get my music fix that way.

We sing all verses of the Processional, and with the Recessional we sing until the church is empty. (generally 3)
Father remains on the alter for the first verse, exits down the center isle to the back of the church on the second verse and then the congregation drifts out on the 3rd verse.
We have had many lectures from the pulpit over the years about leaving after communion. Hardly anybody does it at our church unless they've got food in the oven for a big gathering.
BTW we have 3 in RCIA this year.

I long ago gave up on good church music, so it doesn't enter into my appreciation of the service. I never thought it would enter into my appreciation either, until we moved from a church that had fabulous music - both choral and contemporary.
Now, in my new surroundings, I find myself very irritated at the fact that the responses are never spoken aloud by the congregation--just murmurs--and the singing is about the level of humming. Grates on me, it does.

I have been concerned about the deterioration of liturgical music and hymns for years...going all the way back to my early years in the Methodist Church. Every year it seems that more and more weirdo songs appeared and traditional hymns were jettisoned. Then the praise music started, with a whole group of people who thought that those were the only "truly religious" songs. Then the rock music. Then the sacred dance.
I now sing whatever is indicated and simply listen to the grand choral arrangements of old hymns here at home. I have no explanation for why the Church has lost its way on music...and if you ask me, most of them have, whether Catholic or Protestant.
The last church service that had appropriate music (that I heard) was the 2001 service after 9/11 in the National Cathedral. And Laura Bush, no minister she, chose the music.

At the church in CA, our choir had three opera performers, two female and one male. Our organist was a perfectionist (a la Mozie). All of her music was glorious. And, we did sing all of the verses!
The choir director not only directed, but performed, wrote music and played several instruments - including the organ. He accepted no less than perfection from the choir and actually inspired the congregation to sing loud and long.
Oh, I miss that - can you tell?

Hi Jemian - there was an article in our local newspaper this week about the son of the missionary Nate Saint (his name is Steve) who lives in Willmar,MN.He's a teacher there. He was 5 when his father was killed. He was an adviser on the film.

Hi Mozie - I am in absolute AWE of your musical ability! I got nervous just reading your report of playing for the service this evening. I barely made it through my recitals and still don't like to play for an "audience" but prefer to play for my own enjoyment. I definitely am not professional pianist material.
Thanks for sharing the email from Ev's sgt. It's always interesting to read these. When he speaks of long lines, does he mean like in food lines?
Hope you get to pack many boxes of "goodies" for them tomorrow.
