Brokeback Mountain Claims Big Four At The Golden Globes
Critically-acclaimed western Brokeback Mountain cleaned up at the Golden Globe Awards last night by claiming four top honors.
The controversial film, which has been banned from some cinemas for its gay themes, took home Best Movie (Drama), Best Screenplay and Best Song prizes at the 63rd annual Golden Globe Awards, while Ang Lee picked up the night's Best Director honor from his hero Clint Eastwood.
And there were triple celebrations for Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line when Reese Witherspoon and Joaquin Phoenix claimed the acting honors in the Comedy/Musical movie category and the film picked up the Best Motion Picture (Comedy/Musical) prize.
The win cost Phoenix dear, however - he bet Witherspoon's husband Ryan Phillippe he wouldn't win a Golden Globe. The Crash star demanded payment as his pal took to the stage at the Beverly Hilton hotel.
Meanwhile, there was a big upset for the stars of Desperate Housewives during the night's TV awards - all four Best Actress nominees from the show lost out to Mary Louise Parker, who plays a marijuana-selling desperate housewife on cable show Weeds.
But the stars of the hit show didn't miss out on a Best TV Show award - they scooped the coveted prize from Weeds, Curb Your Enthusiasm, My Name is Earl, Entourage and Everybody Hates Chris - and the show's Felicity Huffman claimed the night's Best Actress (Drama) movie award for her role as a transgender man in Transamerica.
The big TV winner was acclaimed mini-series Empire Falls, which claimed two honors - Best Actor (Paul Neuman) and Best Miniseries/TV Movie.
The full list of awards is:

i liked her in Hair Spray...
Well, according to the Hollywod elites, we're just not 'progressive' enough to apreciate all of the delicate 'nuances' of this film.
If they could have their way, we'd all be like Alex in 'A Clockwork Orange' - drugged and made to watch it over and over again with our eyelids clamped open.
Actually I was reading other threads elsewhere, saw an other one of your post and decided to read what you had been writing in forum, but have no problem going back to read what you wrote me here. Give me a minute.
We "met" in another board where you asked for pictures of Martin Ginsburg attending his wife's nomination hearings, and I supplied you with several sources. Nice to see you again. :)
It has nothing to do with agreeing with me, it has to do with how you come across. On the other thread that I followed you back from you had asked somebody if they were Pat Robertson. Yes I find you somewhat suspect.
Yes, you have not been around that long that coupled with the two post today that have raised my eyebrows makes me wonder.
Now I will continue to read your past post and try and figure you out.
"On the other thread that I followed you back from you had asked somebody if they were Pat Robertson."
Then you saw the smile I posted with it, no doubt. Based on the poster's overt wish for the death of a Supreme Court justice; that was Pat's M.O. a few years ago.
Really, you don't have to spend time figuring me out. I'm typed words on a screen, just as you are. To give the shorthand version, I am very much a business and financial conservative, and not at all a social conservative, and I'm pleased to see I have plenty of company in that category here.
Keep up the little smiley face after your little suspect comments it will help for a while.:-)
LOL! That was a no brainer.
See how long I last.... "suspect comments".... this isn't where I expected to find the secret police. :]
Yes, that's pretty obvious. And as I said, I definitely have plenty of company here in that category. Your results may differ, I don't know. I haven't spent any time trying to "figure you out".
If my viewing habits were any indication, it did. I purposely watched The Bachelor (for the first time I might add) as a symbol of protest against the lefty block party in Hollywood. It was a step up, by comparison.
Priming the pump for Hillary in 2008. If West Wing was Bubba's pop culture icon, then Commander-in-Chief will be Hillary's.
"Gosh, she'd be a great president if they've got a TV show about her." Or so the intended logic will go from her wind-up kool-aid drinkers in the Hollywood left.
Ah, but I am not calling people Pat Robertson even with a little smiley face or wondering why people get so "exercised" over a movie that is morally out of touch with America, totally ignoring the fact that what we are really interested in is Hollywood's disconnect and the fallout that it has been causing, which would on a conservative forum be of great interest.
Yes, some comments do have a tendency to make me wonder as I did the other day, but 2 in one day tend to send up the radar. Time will tell if you just think you are being funny and are really this lost in some discussions, or have an agenda. Sad to say it just might be the first.
Anyone heard what the ratings were for the awards show last night?
From Drudge. Looks like ratings were up.
Then you'll probably be happier just skipping over my posts. Have a good day, now.
I believe the break-even point for a movie is double it's advertising and negative cost. I also notice that there's a heavy advertising campaign for this movie at this time (the ads of course do not even hint about the gay theme of the movie). So, they're probably not break-even yet with ticket sales now at 32 million, a production cost of 14 million and unstated (and growing) advertising costs.
One of the things I've read about and experienced myself is where one goes to the multiplex, buys a ticket for one movie, and then upon looking at the ticket stub, finding it's for another movie, invariably some turkey. I wouldn't be surprised if this tactic is used to juice the ticket sales of this movie.
Gotcha beat. I let the wife and daughter go see that while I stayed at home and freeped. So I havent seen anyovem.
I didn't watch last night and we have decided we will not be watching the Oscars this year. Ticket sales are going to have to drop a lot more before Hollywood gets the message.
