The very best thing to do is to go to the AAA travel office and have them do the map right there.

My dad does that every time he takes a road trip. Very much looking into.

When I drove here from MN, I picked up one of the Super 8 motel directories on my way out of town, and made a list of possible stopping points for each day. Then I just played it by ear each day, and stopped whenever I figured I was too tired to make it to the next 'checkpoint'.
