The Hobbit Hole XXVII - And there are many paths to tread...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 01/16/2006 6:56:15 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And there are many paths to tread

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I had a cat many years ago named Berlin (got him when the Berlin wall fell) and he used to enjoy chasing a flashlight beam on the ground. It was hysterical.

He was a real dopehead too...Steve and I used to put a little pile of catnip on the floor and he would roll in it and lay around with a dazed look on his face...then jump up like he saw a hugh rat or something and take off chasing it.

Steve and I would just laugh...it was really really funny.

So far I've potted up 26 basil plants and 24 flat leaf Italian parsley (with a few more to go.)

I need to plant some catnip for Miss Cat....well, for me really. Miss Cat prefers the store-bought stuff. I like catnip tea. It's more relaxing than chamomille.

We started getting Rosie hooked on 24 last night... we watched the first three hours of this season last night.... trying to get her caught up to live by Monday. We'll have to borrow your DVDs for the other seasons. :~D

Talon has a funny story about a friend's cat that used to get really stoned on catnip.

Halvah is the funniest of mine. It makes her loopy, but she seems aware enough to be really embarrassed by the loopiness. It's a bit painful to watch!

BTW, I got a voicemail from the apartment office wanting to know if Mr. Beepy had been acting up this week. They said they didn't have your current number. Should give 'em a call or stop by when you get back.

Did they refer to him as "Mr. Beepy" as well?

Heh...not formally, anyway.

Wonder if he has a nickname in their office, too...

They dang near killed my dad. They told him they wouldn't put him under general anesthesia and they did. In an outpatient clinic.

Big mistake.

Afternoon...

Did ~not~ mean to run as many errands as I did this a.m. Went to thegym and then to a men's ministry breakfast at church.

Intended to go to Lowes to pick up new doormats (tracked in dirt not good) and then make a quick stop by Goodwill.

Did that. Wife called on the way there and added grocery store...then she called again and said "Luke has a birthday party to go to this afternoon" so that added Target...and I threw in the Dollar Store just for good measure (actually 'cause I wanted candles for the fireplace)...Now I'm home.

Nasty, wet snowness out there, but so far not really any accumulation.

In other news...

Dog is not happy with thenewfloor. He sleeps at the foot of our bed. Usually he'll stay downstairs until the last person is up, or will stay all night with company sleeping on the couch. Now that there's no rugs downstairs (except right at the doors) he's upstairs with the first person up and downstairs with the last person down.

And finally,

I've been watching the first season of Enterprise on DVD (Netflix)...look who showed up...

Actually in the episode I saw he was a Vulcan. Apparently he's made multiple appearances on the last three Star Trek spin-offs.

So, there's that.

What do you expect to get for trade-in value?

dealers all said it was werth $300-$325... I only gave $130 for it, but that was 13 years ago...

only problem was that there was only one M917 there in .17 HMR... and the guy wanted a hunert dollars more fer it than I could get it fer at Wally World... that and he only offered me $275 fer mine, I told him tuh get bent...

coulda got it in .17 Mach2, but that'd be givin' up 400 fps... and 100 yds in effective range...that won't cut it...

so I left empty handed... but a couple guys offered to buy the 10/.22 if I didn't trade it in... we'll see...

Been looking at used 10/22's in the 130-150 range, is all.

My condolences on your .17-lessness.
