The Hobbit Hole XXVII - And there are many paths to tread...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 01/16/2006 6:56:15 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And there are many paths to tread

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I just had my TV dinner and a bunch of Cadbury chocolates and watched a movie. Coulda been worse, I s'pose. And I was very thankful for the chocolates. ;-)

~chuckling~

I didn't get the cinderblock bed finished, but I did the white floating row covers "elevated" a bit so they aren't sitting right on the seedlings underneath.

Floating row covers are merely a type of gauzy spun-fiber cloth that is very light, allows light and water to go through but keeps bugs and frost off. During the day, when it's sunny, I fold them off to the side in order to allow the soil to warm in the sun.

I've followed sports a bit when I've worked with people who were into them...but that's been awhile. And we just didn't watch 'em growing up...so I don't even know the rules to most sports.

I guess if I ever end up with a rabid fan, I'll learn...or just be the snacks-and-beer delivery gal. I'm OK with that. ;-)

That's me...the snacks person. I used to make a big deal about the Super Bowl with Steve and the boys till the "costume malfunction"...I thought that was stupid. So now we do it up really big for the Army/Navy game. It's usually very respectable.

Yup. Me too.

Speaking of competitions, I'm off to the AI thread for a bit. Tonight is San Francisco, so it's bound to be funny.

I can't wait to have flowers and such of my own!

Still a little weirded out by getting an interview at the hospital after so long, though. I kinda doubt anything will come of it, but if it does, I'm not gonna know what to think.

I'm gonna dig out the old malt maker here in a bit and make Joshua a strawberry banana malt with vanilla ice cream and heavy cream. I'm telling you, he has me worried sick. He got a stomach illness week before last then this past weekend he got this flu like illness. It barely slowed him down though and he's still running around full grunt and he has NO fat on him!

I'm gonna fatten him up.

I was putting lotion on him last night and just burst in to tears looking at him and he sat down and cried too...he can't stand it when other people cry! Heh...he's so tender-hearted.

We've actually scaled the beds down...we used to have 8 8x10' beds...now we only have six.

I hope it goes good...Steve and I have always loved to garden together. Did you know that cutworms come out only at night? It's so romantic to walk through the garden smooshing cutworms with your sweetie! Heh heh!

He is so active, that when he doesn't get the needed calories, he just looses weight so quick and looks so bad! I got him pudding and ice cream and Carnation instant breakfast and fruits and such...

One of my sisters was like that...really, really active from day one (she walked by nine months and was running full tilt by the time she was eleven months old) and always super thin, to the point where the doctor put her in the "failure to thrive" category when she was a year old - she only weighed fifteen pounds. Didn't exactly make Mom feel good...

We used to give her whole fat chocolate milk instead of just regular milk and plenty of snacks. Maybe the sugar wasn't the greatest, but it helped!

She was perfectly normal by a coupla years later. I think she was just reallllly busy and burned everything off!

I really needed to hear that, sis...I'm really anxious about it, because he just looks so skinny. But like I say, it hasn't slowed him down at all! Heh.

I make his carnation instant breakfast with whole milk. And the malt will be made with heavy cream! And after I cried last night, he's been trying extra hard to eat everything I give him! :-)
