Just would like to start a thread and let Freepers list their guitar related equipment, gear they long for or gear they have recently tried....or just anything guitar related.

I taught myself guitar because of the Beatles; and taught myself piano because of the Beatles (and Beethoven, in particular "Moonlight Sonata").
I did actually wind up getting an Ibanez Artcore - the AF105 model. I am loving it!

Got a picture of it? How are the pickups?
Modeling....been there, done that. Handy for cover bands and once your patches have been painstakingly dialed in you pray for a lack of power surges, spikes, static discharges, etc. It's nice to call up a Boston tone or a Buddy Holly tone without jumping around on a pedalboard or fooling with a rack system but......
As someone once pointed out, in the digital modeling world where does a held note go to die? It's either 1 or 0, on or off. A note decaying into feedback or kept alive by finger vibrato is a beautiful, delicate thing - similar to a burning ember. In Tubeland, the ember can be whipped back into a white-hot coal or it can be gently fanned and kept barely alive. In Modeling-land those dynamics can be approximated but never truly duplicated.
So...I'm not a tube snob but I have recognized that it's the best sound I can get, versatility notwithstanding (although my amp does a he11 of a job in that department).
My current gear:
1994 Fender Stratocaster 1957 reissue two tone sunburst, one piece maple neck, aftermarket Fender Vintage Noiseless pickups installed.
1998 Fender Swamp Ash Stratocaster - natural finish, maple neck/fretboard, white pickguard, feather light all stock and the sweetest player I've had.
1985 Carvin DC-150 - black. At least 10 pounds, heavier than a Les Paul, sustains for days with (too) hot M22 pickups, ebony 'board, brass nut. My first quality electric and has mostly kept me from loading up on expensive Gibson gear over the years.
1998 Rickenbacker 360/12 - Jetglo (black). Hi Gain (nailhead) pickups soon to be replaced with vintage toasters. 6-saddle bridge soon to be replaced with 12-saddle custom.

I have always wanted a Carvin guitar....but since they are an outlet, it's hard to get my hands on one to try....any suggestions on a typical model? How do you like the ebony fretboard?

Well mine's 20 years old so I may not be a whole lot of help. However, their new California Carved Top is supposed to be the bee's knees...lots of PRS-type features but a unique character. Joe Walsh endorses/plays. I love the density of ebony - don't know if it's a chicken-and-egg situation but I'm not too crazy about rosewood for electrics (my Rickenbacker's OK though). You can really use your imagination when designing/ordering a Carvin...
I've owned about ten Carvins over the years, and sold several that didn't quite work for me. The DC127/200/200 is by their best model, IMHO. I had a CT6M California Carved Top for a while - it was pretty nice but not the equal of my Paul Reed Smiths. I didn't like the AE185 much, either - it was neck-heavy and tried to be all things to all people and just didn't achieve that. But the DC's are great, and the ebony fretboard and very low action are perfection. Get a tung-oiled maple neck instead of the poly-finished neck - it makes a big difference. And I'm still not wild about the Carvin pickups (the C22's are OK) or the active electronics, but put some passive Seymour Duncans in a DC127 and it becomes a very, very good guitar for the money.
Carvins don't have much resale value, so watch eBay - there are usually some very good ones out there cheap.
More of a pianist, but I strum a little on my Guild (Rhode Island) D-25. I'd like to pick up a hollow body electric as well, looking at the Epiphone line. I'm nowhere near a great guitarist.
Piano wise, shopping for an accoustic. I have a Yamaha P200 stage piano and a Korg synth. Have owned other Korg (S_Pro-X) and Yamaha (W2, DX7) keyboards. Will probably get a Yamaha or Kawaii (80s era) studio piano and one day will add a grand when I have room!
The humbuckers are pretty good, but since this is the only electric I have, I don't have anything to compare it with. I'm playing in a geezer band (all of us are over 50, except for one young 47 year old kid), and we have a couple of Ibanez artcores being used.
