Then, as everyone on the ping list gets the word out about this thread, it becomes well known enough in freeper land that anytime someone asks in other threads "anyone here play so and so game???", they will be quickly referred to here... maybe even by non-gamers.
Thats the idea anyway.

He has been listed under SMAC for months now, and I couldn't find it, so I just dropped it from the list starting with this thread. (He hadn't responded to my post asking him what it was before I dropped it)

Please do so. Can't hurt. The name of the original game is Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, and the expansion pack is Alien Crossfire, abbreviated as SMAC and SMACX. Thanks.

Yeah, Europa is one of many servers termed "shards".
Shards are part of the story line of Mondain's crystal being shattered into many segments, each containing a separate but identical world.
A subscriber can play any or all shards but each persona bust be developed over time and most only play one or two shards due to the time required to work up skills.

Technically, Civ1 and Civ2 preceded Alpha Centauri, but who's counting? I couldn't get into AC. I tried, but something was just missing. I adore Civ2 and MOO2. Maybe I'm odd.
